Full Version: bad switch for headlights??

yesterday my high beams wouldnt not come on then all of a sudden started working. today they did not come on at all today. i checked the switch but there was no broken wires. could the switch still go bad. I am using the pure polaris bulbs.

No other issues with wires chafed or coming apart..etc?? Then problem likely with the contacts in the switch. If you take the switch off, look under it, you will see a very small c-clip that holds the button on. You can carefully remove the c-clip (don't let it fly away) and then take off the button to reveal the 2 spring loaded contacts. Take out the contacts, polish them with 1000 grit or finer (untill all black residue it gone) and then lube them up good with electrical contact grease and re-assemble.....be carefull with the c-clip as it will bend very easily. I also filled the lower cavity with silicone after confiring it worked normally to help prevent wires from vibrating off the terminals.

Those switches do suck. I just replaced mine, it is about $20.00 and takes a minute to do.

I know if I would try to take that thing apart, I would jones it all up.

Same thing happen on my wifes xc, Just replace the switch, alot less headach

the solder on the back of the switch has been known to break off happened once on mine 2ce on my buddy's. silicone in the back cavity sounds like a good idea
