Well we just got back from our yearly saddle bag ride. Totally awesome trip.
We start from our cabin at Good Spirit:
Day 1: 140 miles. We rode from the cabin, through Canora, Foam Lake, Wadena, Kelvington then up to Green Water. The trail was freshly groomed from GS to Canora, from Canora to Wadena was pretty rough riding(the only part of the whole trip that was rough) after Wadena trail was freshly groomed all the way to Green Water. We stayed at Fisherman's Cove, what a beautiful place with awesome staff....will be going back there for sure!
Day 2: 112 miles. From Green Water we set out to get to Hudson Bay. This was a beautiful ride. Scenery & powder fields make this trek worth taking again & again. We filled up at Weekes. Had a sausage or 2 at the next shelter out side of Weekes and continued on to Hudson Bay. We stayed at the Treeline Motel, not nearly up to the standards of Fisherman's Cove but it was a place to sleep and the restaurant is excellent!!
Day 3: 130 miles. From Hudson Bay we rode route 66 which basically follows #9 Hi-way all the way to Canora. This was another excellent ride. There was 6" of fresh snow which made it even more enjoyable. We stopped at Usherville and Canora for gas. It was actually pretty much a blizzard outside, but we started out early and we were at Goodspirit before 3pm. We had our first sled troubles on this day as well. Right outside Endeavor, our lone Polaris rider had a Chaincase failure...big mess. We just towed it 300 yards to Endeavor and went back for it with the truck later.
There were 9 of us on the trip this year and a great time was had by all. We are already starting to plan next years trek!!
Last year we rode from Stoughton(home) to our cabin at Good Spirit (410 miles round trip). This was done in only 3 days, 1 day up, 1 day of rest, 1 day back. It was fun but this year was alot more relaxing. The women much preferred this ride as 100-150 miles a day is just a nice distance.
I think next year we are going to start from Good Spirit again and go east to Manitoba, I guess we'll see what happens!!
