Some buddys and I are going to spend 8 days in Fairbank in the first week of march. What is going on then?
I hear of some ice festavel that weekend we want to check out.
We are renting sleds in North Pole for a day.
taking a trip to the Artic circle one day.
Going 40 miles north of town to view the northern Lights for two nights.
What are some good bars to check out in town?
Do you guy have Pabst Blue Ribbion Beer up there?

The World Ice Art Championship will be going on Through Mar. 10th I believe. You can check it out at www.icealaska.com
If you want to go bar hopping the Silver Spur is a good country bar, then there's Kodiak Jack's, more of a bar/club blend, but they do have an electric bull. My favorite place is the Red Fox Bar & Grill. Kinda small but has a nice sports bar atmosphere and the best pizza in town, (being a couple hundred yards from the house doesn't hurt either). Yes there is PBR but finding a bar that serves it might be hit and miss. You might have to get it at the liquor store.
Is the sled rental outfit going to guide you or just let you roam? If they're not guding let me know and I'll tag along or find someone who can.
If you have anymore questions send me a pm.

Before I even looked at your profile I knew you were from somewhere back East.....PBR.....PLEASE!!!!!!!!! I just glad you did not say Schmidt's...Please indulge in some fine Alaskan Amber while here. You may find it alot to your liking and that is from a former East Coaster (Scranton, Pa)

You should definately go to Chena Hotsprings. Its great in the winter. Also the Ice Park is great.
Edit:
Yeah, we also have a local brewery, Silver Gulch in Fox, just north of town. They might have tours, I know they have restaraunt with great food. Dont know about their beer though.

Thanks for the help. I do not konw if the snowmobile rentels are guided I will find out.
What about the iron dog race?
Are there any cool spots to check out that have to do with sleds? I am big into old sleds.
How far of a drive is it form fairbanks to Anchorage? (time and miles roughly)

The Iron Dog is over, finishing last weekend. Wasilla has a transportation museum, but im sure its closed for the winter. They would prob have something sled related though. Fbx - Anch is about 350 miles and 5-6 hours of driving one way.

The Iron Dog finished up last Sat. but there is plenty of riding to do if you have the time. On a clear day you can ride up in the hills for a good look at Mt. McKinley or see some nice scenery of the Alaska range from just about anywhere. Another thing to look at are dog sled rides, there a several people who will give them.
Driving to Anchorage will take you about 6-7 hours (365 mi.) depending on how fast you drive. If you want to go there for the day you can catch a small plane for about $180 round trip. It's only a 1 hour flight.
I'm not sure what the dates are but Chatanika Days is sometime in the middle of March and they have snowmachine tug-of-wars, outhouse races, and a bunch of other fun stuff.
As snowmanjeremy said, Chena Hot Springs would be a great time too. Do a search for their web site, tons of info.

if you want to go to summit or cantwell for epic ridding just a short drive down the road or the white mountains just north of here there are a few places closer but you need to have a local take you there
are you looking for trails or powder ? just to let you know if you mess up there is still alot of places that dont have cell service and even if there is it might take hours for some one to make it to you its not the same as in the states . so pack like your life depends on it if you go out to the mountians . what sleds are you renting ?

We are renting polaris I don't know what kind ( trail or powder) I am thinking trail. We are having a guide for 6 hours.
I just had one of the girls I am going to Fairbanks with call me, she said so had never ridden and was not sure about the 6 hours. I told her she would be fine and would not feel fine the next day. She has been pissing me off for the past 3 weeks. Pay back is a bitch!
How far out of town do I need to be to check out the northern lights?

Get your girl to start exercising her throttle thumb now or she'll bug you about it all day. Trust me! As far as the lights go, 0mi. If they're out you can see them from anywhere. It is a little nicer if you're out a little ways to get away from the city lights but it's not necessary. You can also do a search for the aurora forcast. I think NOAA does it. They're pretty acccurate.

Is this in Fairbanks?
Is it just a race?
Is there seats so people can watch?
Is it a show and swap meet?
