Creating a post about where to run from Emporium worked pretty good for me so I thought I would try it again with a different spot.

Were is the closet place to park that I can get to the ANF loop. We will be coming from SB Elliot over on 153 above Clearfield. I have never ridden the loop and would really like to give it a whirl.

Is the loop relatively flat or is it up and down, tight and twisty like around Emporium?

The map I have doesn't show gas stations. It's the map from the ANF website. There has to be gas stations along the loop right? It's the one that has about 2000 square miles on a 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper and the trails and towns are so small that when you print it you can read anything.

And I don't remember if I thanked you Tisco but Thanks for the directions to Sizerville last weekend!

OK Dvarmit, looking at the snowmobile map I got at the Yamaha shop in Marienville on Saturday it looks like Russell City is the closest place for you to jump onto the loop. Get yourself to Ridgway on 219 north of I-80 then take 948 NW to Russell City. The map shows gas and parking there. The other gas stops appear to be Red Bridge,Kellettville and Marienville. Quite a ways around from Red Bridge to Kellettville so i dont think Id pass either one of those without filling up- depending on which way you are going.

Sounds like a good deal. That is about as close as I an see as well. I was looking at Marienville but Ridgeway will do. Thanks for the information on the gas as well.

What is the terrain like?
Pete H
As posted earlier we only rode the southern part of the system. The terrain I rode was quite varied, from well traveled forest roads to some nice tight two track-plenty twisty with good fun rough up and down hills, some old rail bed, even a little wide open gas line.

Did you go to cougar bobs? We haven't rode the loop this year yet, did all our riding in Ontario this year. so far.
Pete H
I actually rode into the driveway of Cougar Bob's by mistake. Must have been a subconscious thing- that arrow pointing left on the sign that says "THIRSTY?". It was only 11 or so when that happened. Thank God for reverse, who knows what would have happened if I would have had to look for a place to turn around.

A heads up on the gasoline situation. It is my understanding that the gas at Graybile Marine and near Kelletville have closed. This leaves only Russell City and Marienville.

Yeah, I know what your saying. I just noticed your from Boardman. I live Berlin Center, were like neighbors. Lol We are heading up Saturday if the conditions are good to Marienville, we have a camp up there.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully we can make it up there this weekend..

The marina is closed. On the eastern side there is gas in Kane and gas at Lantz Corners. Getting gas in Kane is sort of a pain now and talked to a guy that lives in Kane that Ive rode with and he says there are logging near the trail and said its really bad now. Getting gas at Lantz Corners is out of the way, but has a nice ride to get there. On Trail 18 you go buy what Ive come to know as the Duck Ponds. Real flat long stretch that you can see good and can really get moving. We were past the gas station in Russel City Saturday and I dont know if the pumps there are working or not. There were a couple trucks and trailers parked in Russel City beside the General Store. Maybe just go in and ask make sure its okay to park there. In Marienville, there is parking if you are coming from the west into town, turn right at the Uni Mart and there is a ball field in behind the Uni Mart that you can park at. Ive parked there a couple times. You can get gas at the Uni Mart there but not sure how much that will help you. You ride out of the parking lot of the softball field right to the trail. The loop is about 130 miles. Not sure about gas in Kellettville, not got any there. Someone said about riding to the Willows, this is way out of your way to do the loop but is where we rode to on Saturday. Its not on the map but you can get gas at the bar there. There is a tank outside, just go inside if its locked, get it unlocked, pump your gas and tell them how much you used. Some nice eye candy there too if you know what I mean. The riding can very from tight twisty woods trails to a nice ride on a joint use road. Only one semi serious hill to get up but you shouldnt have any problems with your new Kitty. Really any sled could do it I guess. Ive never had any problems with it. Any more questions let me know. Greg

dvarmit, I agree Russell City would be the best for you to start out. Parking also at highland! I would suggest that you start and head towards Marienville. Saying that would be would be that the trails tend to get a little more tore up depending on snow depth as for up north the more there is. Be careful going through Marienville the speed is posted 25 mph!! I would top off at Kellettville you would have enough to go to lantz Corners. Last year we did the loop right after a big snow fall in late feb and we had plenty of fuel from the Corners to Kellettville. If you have time you should go to Jakes rocks. Its a overlook of the Kinzua Dam! Awesome view!! You will see trail #19 intersect with trail #1. Thake 19 to the rocks. After the rocks you will be on Longhouse drive (still #19) you can run wide open its flat and in some places it goes down hill and up. The park road is closed to cars and trucks during snowmobile season. You will like longhouse, i never heard anyone say anything bad about that ride. You will come to trail #1 on your way down. so that will put you back right on track! Shoot over to lantz corners to fill up and your set to go back to Russell city. when we did the loop last year everyone of us had different mileage because of the fresh powder and of alot of track spin. I had 210 miles, dont know if it is accurate but would like to do it again and be a little more accurate. have a good ride, any questions let me know. I'll try to help.

Their is plenty of parking at trail head on rt66 east of Marienville. Lots of parking @ pasnow.s clubhouse in highland pa also. Rode this area alot a few years ago and we leave from a friends camp on the west side of the loop up by Whig Hill. Some of the best riding in pa if their is snow but their has not been and the OGM people love to plow. I would say stay on the eastern side and head north it will be your best bet buy far. Try www.pasnow.s.com for more help.

Who are the "OGM" people? Just curious.
pete2833
OGM people are the gas companies that are operating the gas wells in the ANF.

There is/was gas in marshburg last year at the Warehouse restruant. It is north of westline on your way to the willows. If you look at a road map the warehouse is on the corner of highway 59 and 321 intersection. There are 2 corners of these roads because they run together for a few miles but it is the corner that is closer to Bradford. Any how if you are coming from the south, you will cross a Rt. 59 once you cross it you will take a left and follow the snowmobile tracks for about a mile along 59 and they will take you right to the warehouse. if I remember correctly the tank is out back of the restruant and it may be locked also. Just ask inside for the key.

There was a sign for gas and food when I came to 59 last weekend so they must still have it. Wasnt sure how far down 59 it was though. Thanks for the info. Will keep it in mind for next time.

We just got back from SB Elliot but didn't get to make it up to the loop. Trails were awesome and we put on 160 miles Saturday afternoon and a couple of hours this morning.

We rode the loop yesterday. It sucked big time. What the hell do they consider a groomer? They didn't groom shit. Every damn trail was plowed to the rocks. Nothing but snirt and rocks. They ruined there hunting and now they are ruining there snowmobile trails. The ANF needs a swift kick in the ass. IMO. The oil companys own the ANF. What a joke. It used to be awesome up there.
toyrider
Not sure where or what time you road, but we stayed on the south end between Russell City and Cougar Bobs and there was plenty of snow. I do know that coming back in around 2pm near Cougar Bobs it was worn down in the corners.

Considering the amount of snow, or the lack there of that mother nature has given us, this was a good morning for us. Other than FUSION900PA doing a crashin' dive......

me and a buddy went back up on sunday. parked right in marienville. roads were groomed but the trails were whooped out, which is fine to me. north of russell city was pretty bare, we went about 3-4 miles up 1 but turned around due to the brown. snow was melting fast in the late morning/afternoon. secondary trails were good, but luckily we headed back when we did cause the road to the trucks was practically bare. only got in about 70 miles...

sno pro, I have to agree with you on that one, I missed out this past weekend, but I know what you mean. I dont understand why they have to drop the plow WAY DOWN!!!? Any truck that goes back there for the oil wells have 4wd so a little bit of snow wont hurt. Another place that is b/s is the bridge going to Westline, They don't leave half a lane covered with snow. That road doesnt have that much traffic on it in that little section of trail!! The ANF needs to lighten up!!!

did Marienville yesterday too - went east and did the quick loop out around kelly pines, then the by-pass to Kellettville, up to Dunhams siding. Early on (before 9:00 AM) it was pretty nice - only real bad spot was up the hill past cougar bobs, by about 11:00 everything was getting pretty soft and by 1:00 it was a mess. Back to the trucks by 2:00. Quick 100 miles, although would like one more ride before the season is done.
