I blew a head gasket two weeks ago and we re getting ready to dig into it. I want to install a temp gauge anyone reccomend any particular gauge or can I pick up any old gauge? Also would a new thermo. maybe help with the overheating? I checked the spec sheet for specific anti freeze but it doesnt list anything so whats everyone using?

Arctic cat has one for the t660. I have them in stock 89.95 plus shipping.

I meant to add a few updates since Im starting to get things fixed. The head has a pretty good sized low spot and I think it was only like one set of valves I think on the intake side (could have been exhaust though) were good. Also the Thermostat was trashed but I dont know when it failed. There is a way to check the thermostat but i think it has to be removed to do it. Everyone thats overheating might want to have it checked.

I believe when it was removed it was stuck open (rod was really bent) but I dont know if it bending caused the problem or if it was stuck closed and then when the head gasket blew it finally built up enough pressure to blow ithe thermostat open. Either way might be worth checking them.

Hmmm....My (brand new, 500 miles on it) '05 T660 Turbo Trail overheated on me 4 times the other night, but I think it was because of how hard packed the trails were. As soon as I pulled over into some softer stuff on the side and kicked it up on the heat exchangers the temp light went right out. Were you having more consistent overheating issues, or should I be concerned??

I would recommemd A 160 temp. thermo. and also a factory t660 temp gauge you can purchase at the cat dealer.

I ve always had overheat issues. This year i added the longer snowflap and it did the trick on really hard packed trails as long as I stayed over 20 mph. JDP has a thermo for like $30 I plan to try hoping its an improvement over stock.

So got the engine back together filled the oil started filling the anti freeze and its pouring out as fast as it was going in. Check hoses everythings connected so look where we hear it and find quite the whole in the front heat exchanger. Damn them picks and fragile exchangers.
Thefoolsbro
thus the cause of the overheat and the blown headgasket.

Its alive. Anyone over heating should definitely try the thermostat from jdp and also drain the antifreeze and start fresh. Maybe even just try bleeding the system.

Given the fact your ECM takes readings from coolant temp, the colder stat may keep it running way on the rich side. Suggest dropping no lower than a 180 unit.
