Well It's saturday night watching HNIC (bruins suck) so after the first period and of course after Don Cherrys rants, I decide to go for a short 25mi loop,so I head into the GSF and hit Buzzys smooth coudoroy tracks mint, just sweet. So i'm riding along nice and slow 25 mph keeping it way right, figure next couple riders would take the hint. Anyways I come upon Buzzy right at the end of the 2004 trail at his house, so I ride by and wave. On my way back no less then 20 min there's 5 sleds 3 off trail in deep snow stuck, I have to come to a complete stop, no big deal i'm only doing 20-25 mph they get this guy out and before i can go another ass clown follows in same tracks as the first guy and rips right in front of me now there 2 sleds on the left side of the trail and three on the right and there stopped there looking at me, like i'm not supposed to be there. so I go right between em not an inch to spare no big deal, however as i'm heading down the once fresh groomed trail 20 min.ago now it's just ripped to shreds, these idiots are not snowmobilers folks just assholes. Just really pissed me off knowing the hard work the club puts into so everyone can enjoy the trails just for a few asses to f up the trails.

Isn't that job security for those folks working to create these beautiful, groomed trails?????????? Everybody complains on here when people ride after the groomer goes through and it really confuses me?????????????????????????????????????????????? I am usually the only one out late riding during the night and that is exactly the beauty of it! just my 2 cents. I think one of the excellent folks driving a groomer weekly said the same thing recently!?!?!?!?!?!?!

job security????????how can it be job security when most of them are volunteers working to create those beautiful, groomed trails??????there not gonna be nice groomed trails for long if you dont let them set up.but i guess they groomed them just for you.i think there should be no riding after a certain time at night to let the groomers do there magic so that all of us can enjoy them the next day.just my 2 cents

It's just a fact the freshly groomed trails last longer if allowed to set up for a few hours. Especially on the highly traveled trails. Maybe some of the night riders should ride in the groomer and really see why it's important.

I've noticed two trains of thought here, those who could not give a sh*t about anyone else and say "so what", stay home if you don't like how I ride, and those that care and make positive comments about the groomer operators, nice trails, etc. Interesting. I'll side with those who appreciate nice trails and courteous riders, I wish we were the majority.

Fact of the matter this was literally 15min after the groomer went by, I'm all for having a lilttle fun but this was way over the top these guys were trying to put a hurtin on the trails no doubt about it, they could'nt of cared about anyone but themselves, with the woopdee doos they was creating.

I guess I'm down the middle somewhere. To me it's a great experience when I'm out riding at night and I find a stretch of freshly groomed trail with no other sled tracks on it. I like riding at night, and it's always a treat to ride freshly groomed trails. I don't want to stay home so that the next guy gets the perfect trail instead of me.

BUT... I'm not out there goosing my throttle tearing it up either. I'm respectful of the trail, and although I like to ride hard, I don't do things to thrash the trail.

In my eyes, there's nothing wrong with riding at night when the groomers are out. The only thing that's wrong is intentionally trying to rip up the trails.

Exactly! It's these same loosers who pin the throttle out of every corner or after every stop and dig a nice hole and leave a nice pile of snow behind it for the next guy to turn into a decent bump. And so it begins. It's because no one ever told these guys about the concept of other people. I bet their parents are the exact same way and soon enough they will breed another generation of assholes to ruin the trails while laughing and saying "get over it and stop complaining." veryangry.gif

I do not like coming on unnecessary "made rough" trails any more than the next person. But what are you going to do start telling people when and when not to stay off the throttle not to spin unles the trail has set for 5 hrs. Cant really control it can you.

I think riding at night is great and not a problem with the groomer operators either, however to just d squirrelys and stop and starts to spin track and throw rooster tails at each other is not respectful of the groomer operators or others that might want to ride the next day!!

Unfortunately, not all snowmobilers take it easy on a freshly groomed trail. Most clubs double groom a trail and are fortunate to smooth out the trail for a second time within a couple of hours. Sometimes the club only has time to single groom the majority of their trails and smooth things out again. Just ask the folks at VAST for their thoughts. No one will ever be able to convince the "me" folks otherwise.

I work from 7 am to 7pm pretty much six days a week, so aside from Sunday afternoons, I have to ride at night just to get in some riding at all.

Can you take a joke???? Its a fairly common problem in many places I think. Like I said I dont like it either but how can you actually police it.

Seems like this is the groomers biggest pest peeve. Anyone read this past issue of vast the second section deals with throttle jockeys and roosting the trails, also saw signs at the junctions in Groton , pleading with people not to spin the track right after groomer. But I noticed alot of people especially non local riders don't give a shit. they figure there only up there once or twice a season so lets rip it up!

There is no excuse for tearing up freshly groomed trails and if set up properly will last a lot longer, I have come on to fresh groomed in the morning and been the first one on it and then traveled back over it 4 hrs later and its still mint

There is getting to be way too many rules to snowmobiling................
and everything else for that matter. flag_usa.gif no.gif

To bee honest I could care less if I ever saw another groomer.
1 trail passes would be cheaper.
2 people might slow down a bit.
3 the trails would be less crowded.
4 no whining about people tearin up the trails
5 less x-country skiers with unleshed dogs giving you a dumb look (trails too bumpy for them)

Does a "real" snowmobiler really blame the operators for thinking that way? I SURE DON'T. TRUE snowmobilers don't intentionally destroy the trails EVER! You will find the same crowd that rides out of control 90% of the time also tears the trails up - freshly groomed or not.

I ask folks that do this if they would drive their cars that way too if they were damaging the roads the way they damage the trails. Usually they look at me like I'm from another planet. VAST already has enough trouble with enforcement but I would really like to see fines for riders intentionally observed damaging trails. With the cost of fuel for groomers, the price of the equipment, and the time it takes (to say nothing of the fact it is 95% volunteers) I don' honestly believe anyone can realistically believe we can continue to pay more to groom the trails constantly when the trails we have could remain nice longer if ridden reasonably.

its not that people ride the fresh groomed trails its the morons that pin it and leave big bumps at every corner and fishtail while spinning the shiit outta the trail that erks me. its like they think they are the only ones who deserve a groomed trail and to he ll with the next guy. i like to crank on groomed but i believe in letting the next guy get some pleasure from the smooth stuff too. same goes for early season riding. take it easy early season to pack trails and get a good base then once its packed good and set up then ride hard.just stay right and respect the others that enjoy this sport as much or mor as you do. thats all we're asking.

Just an honest question here.

In 1985 (when you moved to VT??) were you not a bit more of a throttle jockey and a bit less "courteous"???

I could care less as long as you stay on your side as I only use the trails to get to and from my favorite riding areas.
