I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I will need to get across the border from NY into canada.

I am planning a trip with some friends and normally we just go to the Tug Hill of Old Forge to get some extra sledding in. With this warm weather and rain we are forced to go farther north. We have never been to Canada so we are wondering if going across the border with 4 sleds will be a problem? Do we need anything more than registrations and insurance cards? Also I was wondering if we need to buy trail permits, or anything special to ride the trails in Canada?

Last but not least.... Where is the best place to go in Canada to ride? How far from the boarder do we have to go before we can get some good ridding in? If anyone could help me that would be great. :beerchug:

number 1 thing you will need is snow.
when crossing the border if you have a passport it would be a good idea to bring one, it is not necassary but it could help if you get sent to the booth for additional checks. yes you need a permit which can be purchased at any dealer, most hotels.
you don't need insurance cards as the permit comes with liabilty insurance for canada. you might want to get canadian insurance cards for your truck. the web site www.fcmq.qc.ca has all the trail condition info.

I'll tell you what you can't have . That's a criminal record of any kind .
DUI is a felony in Canada and they will not let you in the country .
At the border all you need is your drivers license . Have fun , Canada riding is #1

Just got back from St. Donat. Snow was going very fast. Trails very marginal at best and grooming has ceased. You must go very far north!

hey guys next year come here, the new dundee snowmobile club [my club] has the best trails in ontario, they are perfectly smooth and the groomers do a great job, cochrane has snow earlier and later but were only about 1 hour and 30 mins from the buffalo boreder and the trails are awsome

My brother was in St. Zenon last week said it was good. The main thing you need up in Quebec if that is where you plan on going is locks and lot's of them. Do not leave the sleds in the trailer at night if you can avoid it. They will take the whole thing. Depending on what you are towing with pull the fuel pump fuse and keep it hidden in your room. I am dead serious about all of this. I ride there every year and have had too many friends get their stuff stolen. Last ones had their hotel room robbed of all gear and $800 cash. Never leave $$$ in the room at all, use a credit card. If you need a place close by to get some good locks pretty cheap Home Depot has Kryptonite locks pretty inexpensive. I bought a chain and 2 U locks for about $60. I use the U locks wrapped around the suspension through the track and the chain lock to lock the front suspension to another sled. When you buy your trail permit make sure you use cash or a credit card NOT a debit card. Last year they took 3 months to process my debit card and I lost an additional $40 on the exchange. Good thing I already deducted for it before or else there would have been some checks bouncing. The riding there is awesome you just have to be very careful where you stay and make sure your stuff is locked up. My brother's friend drove his brand new Dodge w/Hemi and the last night they were there the alarm went off, someone had tried getting inot the driver side door with a screwdriver. I will ride there every year without hesitation, just cautious. Good luck and have a great time. If you're in the area of the Bistro tell Kirk and Lynne that Ed & Cheryl say hello, they are the new owners they'll appreciate the business!!!
