The snow really brought out a number of snowmobilers this weekend to the ANF. We had a group of 15 of us that rode the ANF this weekend! We started out in Lantz Corners on friday night and went to Westline. There were lots of sleds out friday night. Everyone wanted to get some good riding in before the rain on Sunday! Got back to the Corners and went in the Barrel House for some drinks and a bite to eat! Great food! Trails were groomed. Saturday 15 of us set out to go to the Willows. Trail #1 north of Westline was awesome, not alot of sleds were on it at all! Stopped along the trail to take some pictures. I would love to share them with you but i dont know how to post pictures on here. Talked to some other sledders and they said there is about the same amount of snow throughout the entire loop! The southen part seemed to be more beaten! Did anyone do the whole loop this weekend? If so How were the trails out towards Warren?
We left for home sunday afternoon around 3:00 and it was raining pretty good . forcast shows a little bit of snow for the week, will it be enough for this weekend? Did anyone else ride to the willows or anywhere in the ANF?

We unloaded at Lantz Corners Saturday morning and rode to the Willows, started heading to NY but the hill up was terrible so we turned around. Rode back down towards Lantz and made a couple loops on 18 and 20. Got 120 miles in. We had 4 sleds, a 2-up GTX, a REV, and 2 older Indys. Like you said, trails were awsome!! Probably seen you at some point what was in your group?

We rode out of Emporium on Saturday and the trails were very steep and had a lot of switchback turns. Icy as well. Are there trails up your way, close to Emporium that flatten out a little? I see from the pic's that you posted XCR583 that the terrain looks like it is NOT so suitable for mountain goats.

Thats cool!! Ya, we went from the willows and started headed towards NY state line but like you said, road up was terrible from the oil/loggers. We got to the top of the hill and it didnt get much better so we turned around and went back to the willows. We were going to have to turn around at the line anyhow. My 2-up and the REV which is mine also had NY stickers but the Indys didnt.

Anybody going riding at the Forest this week? Im off work, have a brand new sled, and nobody to ride with. Rode out of Marienville on Saturday, we stayed down south, would love to see the rest of the Forest trail system. Glad to hear the warm weather Sunday didnt completely kill the snow- plus six new inches!

hey dvarmit, I did read on some other posts that the trails down that way are very steep and have very sharp tight turns! I been wanting to ride from lantz corners to ST. MARYS one time. I havent heard too much on that trail system since it opened 2 winters ago. I dont Know how far you want to travel by vehicle but the national forest trails are flat and some stretches are wide open. Sounds to me that you would have a better ride here, (not to mention safer) you going riding this weekend?

I haven't been out all week and probably won't be out until this weekend. The trails are usually good but tend to get a little beat with so many sleds traveling in for the weekend. The trails should be okay with a little more snow that is supposed to fall on Thursday evening and Friday. I would have to guess that the trails should be pretty good by Saturday though be prepared for a little ice on the roads and some bumps in the woods.

i'd say just go into marienville and park by the uni mart or ball field. you can ride the southern sections without worry of running out of gas. not sure if you fill up in russell city you can make the rest of the loop or not? there's another gas station marked on the trail map but i heard it was closed????

We rode 175 miles in the ANF last Sunday. The conditions, as someone else pointed out, varied tremendously. A lot depends on which way a trail is oriented to the compass, and if it is in the shade or not. The sun is much higher in the sky this time of year, consequently it takes its toll on the trails in the afternoon. The trails that are over harder surfaces-dirt or gravel roads-are much more resistant to getting whooped up. As suspension travel grows with newer sleds so does the depth of the whoops- it is unavoidable. We rode trails with a good packed base, especially up north, near the reservoir, where triple digit speeds were attainable. Some of the tight two tracks in the woods we were lucky to manage 25 mph. We have had quite a bit of snow this week and it has stayed cold. If the storm predicted for tomorrow produces the promised snowfall I think this weekend's riding well be the best of the year, especially on Saturday. Try to ride early in the day, and dont forget those dead end trails, they get a lot less traffic.
