We are planning on heading out from hartland vermont and heading north to Newark on thursday. Any tips or suggestions would be great. i have never done it before. thanks!

Should be no problem. On any long trip like this just remember to get gas whenever you fall a bit below 1/2 unless you are sure where the next stop is. Once you get north of Thetford/W.Fairlee, it will be a smooth trip. Take clothing so you can add more or take some off if conditions demand it - don't wait until you feel cold or find yourself sweating.
Have the normal emergency supplies: current map, matches, compass, knife, spare plugs, belt, duct tape, tow rope, etc. If you have a cell phone take it BUT DON'T DEPEND ON IT TO ALWAYS HAVE SIGNAL!. Be comfortable that your machine doesn't have any problems that you are "living with". FIX THEM BEFORE YOUR TRIP - HOWEVER MINOR YOU MAY THINK THEY ARE NOW! They always get worse when on a trip like this.
Get an early start and take breaks. It will likely take you 7-10 hrs.
