I just got home from a 5 hour ride at LH. The trails are in decent shape right now. We saw the groomer on both sides of rt 31. The roads are well covered and packed except near the cross-country ski parking lot on Tunnel Road. There's at least 2 inches of fresh powder on what feels like a rain-packed base. Except for a few small patches where the groomer scalped the ground and some assorted rocks, no dirt was visible anywhere. Many trails had more like 6 fresh inches and we found a couple trails that had A FOOT of unridden powder. It was sunny, warm, blue sky, and in some areas the ice on the trees was spectacular. What else could you ask for? Well... it would have been nice to spend the night so we could ride again in the morning.
As usual, we met friendly locals to ride with and talk to, including a really nice state trooper. Thanks for your hospitality. We'll be back.
Get out there and hit those trails while you can!
After 600+ miles of riding/driving today, I need to sleep. If I find any good pics on my camera, I'll post something in the morning.

we unloaded about 4:30pm from the 31 parking lot. 1st. stop walet's, you have to
start the ride off on a good note. about 15 sleds there. after a few it was time to ride.
who agrees that something needs to be done with that bad water hazzard between
walet's and the village. we just about rolled two yama dawg's over, and dawg's
don't like to swim. as far as trails cond. i'd rate them about 80%. just about all
the trails were groomed but starting to take a beating.
tunnel rd, summit rd, lynn run, jones mill, marshall was in good cond.
around the t-pike before and after the bridge was rocky like always.
the trails around 7springs was in good shape also.
we were on the way back up to walet's on summit rd. at 90mph and it happened
lets say that was the end of the 121" track. it let loose, not a good feeling
at 90 mph. from the warming hut to the 31 parking lot top speed 20 mph. that sucks!!
on the way back we caught up with beamercat at the t-pike bridge.
he was being towed in. he also didn't have a good nite.
over all the trails were in good shape, but if you are going to ride you better
be up there now. 'cause when it warms up and rains tomorrow that maybe the
end of riding at the LH's this year.
there were two big groups of sleds out riding, they must of been the elbow benders at walet's. haha
have fun riding whoever goes today.......
we rode 106 miles not bad, plan on riding alot more. but the 121" had other plans.
guess it's good for a 121" with 6256 miles on it.
next year it will be a 136" ripsaw 1.25"
does anybody suggest a brand of picks and how many will it take to pick inside
of the rails, and a pattern to use.

Well it was a simple problem that cut the night short. Started with a vibration and ended with a shattered belt and smoked secondary clutch. Hot enough to melt the rollers.........Three screws on the end cap, one snapped and two vibrated out. Made clutch adjustments last week and no loctite. Worst part was the helix is a little #&@*!-ed up on the face from the rollers (well the roll pins that hold them in). Have the stock helix and new rollers on the way so I wont be out of commission for long. Mayve I'll get another helix for my clutch, maybe wait.
Speaking of the creek wash-out at the bottom of the village.....you can get towards Walats pretty easy, coming back is a treat. Have to get off and literally have someone in front to guide the skis in the right direction up the creek bank and give a hefty pull.
By the way it should be marked by the green/sliver/black front end parts that were laying up against a tree....looked like a newer cat front end - someone else had a bad night too.!.!.!
Buying parts sucks but it goes along with riding, pretty much accepted by anyone that put on some miles. Cannot ever put a price on coming home safe.!.!

We crossed over 31 and It started to slush up and get rocky saturday afternoon, but hopefully it froze for those that stayed or just came late and they got a little bit in before todays melt down. Yea, we just got back from SB. We ran SB Friday and Emporium Saturday morning/afternoon then SB last night.. Awesome conditions. The opposite side of 153 was groomed and was like riding on glass. Had the Crossfire hauling coming up Kelly Cellar road..

Emporium was well, different. Needed hooves instead of ski's

UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, HAIR PIN TURN, UP, DOWN, HAIR PIN TURN.. 60 miles took 3 1/2 hours..

I just don't know if it will be ridable or not. I know it's not ridable now. It's supposed to turn back to snow tomorrow and stay snow the rest of the week but what we have took a decent hit today and it's supposed to stay warm tonight. This winter has sucked ass.
I have 5 more days to take for riding so if there is snow I can take a day or two. Don't know that I would take two days just to ride the LH. I would however ride L.H. for a day then head north for a day or two. We just need snow..
Can you ride in the evenings?
If we have snow and you are going to take off shoot me a pm.

Well, they are calling for 1-2" tonight, some "accumulating snows" on Wednesday and Friday and they are "watching" a storm for the weekend. Hell, the way this winter is going it will all be rain

For those who want to ride, Lake Chautauqua is getting lake effect today and tomorrow. They should end up with a foot. It is an easy run up 79 and only takes 3 hours from our area. They have over 400 miles of groomed trails, riding is great. If you stay in Mayville at Webb's Motel they have alot of parking and excellent restaurant. It is $79. a nite during the week and $99. on weekends. You do have to have N.Y. registration. You can register at the Motel and get a Map.

Well, from the looks of it the rain has taken it's toll.. I would say stay home for now.. Notice the signs about Rain and ROCKS

Glad I got some ride time in last night with Pete.... The trails were good last night with the exception of the turnpike... Nice and flat and groomed twice... We just CAN NOT get a break.

Rode the LH on Saturday. A bit icy, but, definetly ridable. Rode from 7 Springs partially around bLue Hole loop...hill up from creek was plowed bare and cindered!
Then rode from 7 Springs to LHSC...saw only about 20 sleds and just 10 trucks/trailers in the rt 31 lot.
We finally have a base, but, Tuesday's predicted rain will kill it (same story all year).

the u.p. has alot of snow "feet" just go to the michigan forum and start looking at the pictures from this past
weekend. bigbizz and i are planning a trip up there for a week long ride.it would be nice to get about 8 or 10
guys to go. it would be cheap for everyone. hell the permit is only $25.00 per sled. my brother has an enclosed trailer. there are out in wyoming now. but they put 6 mt sleds in it. they took off the skis. 6 or 7 sleds with 136" will fit with no problem.
