I just got an older Magellan Meridian Gold from my father in-law - he does not use it. I need to learn how to upload the .txt file from sledzepplin of the LP of MI. I don't have a card reader so I need to find a way to upload them using map send or some other means??? Any help is appreciated.

I mean .img file not .txt

Does it have a USB cable? If so, when you plug it in, does it show up like a hard drive? If it does, you should be able to just copy the .img file to it.

I've got no experience with that unit, but I've read that some Magellans without memory cards can lock up permanently if you copy certain maps to them. I don't know how likely that is, so you might want to do a bit of research before trying.

The Meridian uses a serial port connection to the computer...I'm assuming you have the cable?

Download a free copy of MapSend Manager from the Magellan website.

Connect your GPS to computer com port.

Start MapSend Manager.

Click Manage GPS Files.

Change Available Device to Meridian.

Select Transfer Data to Unit.

Click Transfer.

Browse to folder where you saved the .img file.

Highlight file and >> to right side panel.

Click Transfer.

File will now be copied to your SD card.

Use the GPS menu system to change to your new map.

Awesome, thanks for the help! Yes I do have the cable. I was at the point where I was going to just buy a USB SD card reader. I want to do some playing this weekend with it.

Mapsend manager does not recognize I have the gps even connected - also my computer does not "find hardware".

Look in Windows Device Manager and see if a com port is installed. If not have your GPS on and connected and then run the Add Hardware Wizzard. If the Wizzard fails to detect the GPS you will have to manually add a com port.
