So I've been playing with this 600 conversion for a while now. Its been hard due to our lack of snow, and most of the time when we actually had rideable snow, the engine or clutching was off. I was out doing some testing this weekend and must have overtightened the little screw that keeps the needles locked into place. It definitely stripped the hex head when I was trying to take it out on the trail, so I had to pull the carbs when I got home. While taking them off, I realized that WOT on the thumb control was only giving me about 3/4-7/8's throttle on the carbs! A little adjustment was all they needed. Since the carbs were off, I decided to check out my stock reeds...they were junk. I put in a good set of VF3's and the sled is now running awesome! She isnt the prettiest IQr out there, but this thing is mechanically sound and RIPS! Thanks to everyone for all of the help along the way....

Are you happy with power? What pipe combo did you use? How about shims and spacers under the engine? Gonna be doing this mod soon.....

Very happy with the power. I am 6-2, 215 and I am definitely impressed with the 600 now. I did my own version of Tom's pipe mod. It sounds great too. I always get compliments from people around me about how they love the sound my sled makes. I used the standard motor spacing that is posted in the "iq conversion" topic. Its detailed there but I believe it was .5" between motor and strap and .34" between straps and mounts.

I've got the 22/43 gear setup that seems to work well. Using the RR primary clutch setup and RR needles in the carbs. I really dont think the sled is hard to turn at all. I have the SLP powder pro's with 9" carbides. I was planning to put some C&A's on because I think these skiis are too wide, but havnt gotten around to it. I have the stock '05 a-arms and spindles...no problems with the steering being difficult, but its definitely a little tippy on the trails. Fun though. I also just acquired a full set of '07 RMK consumer a-arms/spindles that I'm going to experiment with. I'm guessing that should lower the front a couple inches like Brad's billet spindles do, but the A-arms a A LOT lighter than stock. I know it wont be quite as strong, but I'm not doing any monster jumping either.

Great to hear.

I agree, it's only hard to steer when you are trying to turn at low speed, like parking lots, backyards and such.

How does it idle? do you still have the sticky lean high idle after a run?

The C & As are great, they bite like hell though, makes it even more tippy.

Hey Arik, glad you got her running good...you got way more patients than I had!! Anyway Id like to see some pics of the ol' girl maybe some Vid with sound...see what you can do even if its sending it to my phone...

Hey Jeff,

No problems with idle....I think that the only time I really encountered that was when I had the mixture screw too lean. I backed that off a hair, and it works great. The two main problems that I had were the mid range-to-WOT bog/studder (that the RR needles seemed to clear up) and the low RPM's (7700)....which were caused by the carb slides not opening up fully.

Let me know how you make out....

It sounds like we had the right idea with the RR needles.

What do you have your fuel screw set to?

Are running the 10-58s, what's your engagement at? I'm still running the 10-60s they might be a little much for the the 440 modded pipe, since there is a little loss of HP with the mod.

Great job, I'm glad you finally nailed it.

Would the 600rr needles give u more of a leaner midrange? Personally i love the sound of the pipe mod too. Im running red almond spring with 10-58's for weights and i believe it engages around 4400-4600 and tach's out at 8100rpm. I would go check but im currently rebuilding the motor hope this helps.

I think I'm too heavy with the 10-60s, I guess I'll swap the 58s in and take a ride. I'm running an EPI red which is real similar to the almond/red, it engages about 3900 - 4000, I just didn't want it to be too high, makes it too loud when you pull away from a check point, I've passed a few cops and none of them have given me a hassle since the 440 mod is really fairly quiet around idle and off idle. Thanks POLARISXC440.

It does sound pretty cool, BTW.

I'm pretty sure that I ended up with them 1.5 turns out...I'll have to check.

I am also using the 58's with almond/red spring. I'm going to ride it as-is this weekend, and then probably put in some 10-60's and test those out. My engagment is around 44/4500.

Are you running the RR needles, instead of the '01 pro x needles?????

Holy Crap, I'm an idiot!!!! Your running a 600, probably can't use the pro x 440 needle.... I answered this question myself....

Holy Crap, I just had to say it too.

Arik,

Let me know what you think of the 10-60 weights. The holy crap was for the difference between the 10-60s and 10-58s, I like it a lot better with the 10-58's.

How is your off idle response? I still have a little hesitation off idle, the mid to WOT is pretty decent.

Hey, did you ever go over to Batavia to race?

Hey Jeff,

Will do....I was out putting around again tonight. No problems at all, I am still topping out at about 7900-8000 RPM though. I'm guessing its probably limited by the pipe, but I'm pretty happy with the performance right now and dont feel like spending a ton on a dynoport setup. I like the idea of the polaris 600 pipe.

I've still got the 390 main jets in there and I have almost no piston wash, so I'm going to go back to 400's I think.

No, they actually cancelled the races last weekend. It was definitely cold enough for them to be making snow, but I guess the rain that we got wiped things out. I'll probably check it out this sunday. Its a pretty cool deal. More of a technical track with smaller jumps. They get a lot of guys show up with standard consumer sleds....

I went back up to 420's and at WOT on the Hill (10F - 1500ft) I was seeing almost perfect plug color, I didn't have the flexi light with me to check wash. We are at such a low elevation, I think we need the fatter MJ.

I was able to get right to 8100 last night, it pulls a lot better. The EPI spring is a little heavier on the finish, like 10lbs. I have heard the EPI springs hold up better.

Given the cost on the Polaris pipe it's almost a no brainer.

I'd love to get over there to check it out, it sounds like a lot of fun.
