Does anyone know if the road access will be open at all this winter to go up to the towers?
catrrider600
Read here it wasn't gonna be open this year. I'm sure someone will be along to confirm one way or another.

I called the now defunct American Thunder Riders about a week ago and talked to a very nice guy who sent me over to Alexis Norwalk @ VAST. E-mailed her and she sent me over to the Caledonia county directory which I left a message with today and waiting to hear back.

Tru dat. But, the ATR fellow I spoke to said that the open house was always coordinated thru VAST and not the club who would groom the road up to the base. The Caledonia county directory also happens to live in East Haven.

Anyways, I got the return call from Caledonia county directory who said there is no open house scheduled. He said he was going to make some calls and would call me back if there was any new information. We also talked about how the radar towers have been closed up and welded shut so there is no longer any access to the top.

SnowCrazed:
thanks for the information. we will be at camp all of next week and were hoping to hit it right. Keep us posted if you hear anything in the future.

I believe that Ginn bought that property in order to negate the possibility of windmills there so I suppose they would be the ones to give a go ahead. I know they have not been very pro snowmobile around Burke Mountain. Too bad, riding up that mountain was something we all looked forward to every year, great views and love those abondoned buildings-- something very cool about that place

Hey Snowcrazed: I come back to this site from time to time to check things out. Too bad the ATR is defunct, I thought they did a awsome job. I'm glad we made up to the Radar site in the good ol' days when the sightseeing from the top of the tower was unsurpassed. BTW nice new sleds you and the Mrs got there. Keep the track side down. Later DT

Always good to hear from you DT! I miss the days of posting your ride pictures and the real old days reading posts from Captain Nebulous on that other forum - I still wonder what happened to that guy.

Mrs. Crazed rode the XP prototype last March and when it put a smile on her face I knew she had to have one. I rode her TNT and decided never to get back on my '05 REV. Yes, the XP is that much better!

For anyone that might have missed the video of the open house I shot in '04 here it is again: VIDEO

Verry cool video!!! We used to go up there in the 70's when Ed Sawyer owned it. The Waterford Ridge Runners S/C clubhouse is a quonset hut that was removed from the base camp (not at the top) and the Caledonia County club has one as the groomer barn.

That is a great video, I remember it from before too. I'll have some more photos in a couple of weeks as I'm heading to the Gaspe for a big ride. We'll be leaving from Vermont on the sleds and riding around the horn, should be about 1700 miles. I'm pretty excited about the trip, I have always wanted to do it from Vermont and have a good friend lending me a new Ski Doo for this ride. Yeeha!!! I'm a little concerned about the wind protection though. How is yours? Check out my new ride! DT

Yep,
It used to be a lot of fun to meet up with the H.C.S group in I.P.
Then always a great ride up the mountain and then to the spaghetti dinner at the East Haven School.

A friend of mine was up there yesterday told me it looks like they are slowly starting to take steel off the buildings. Assume for scrap metal value. Said he drove right to the top no problem said looks like they have cut some of the grown in brush back most likely for the steel removal work maybe.
