Full Version: XP 600 SDI clutching hangs at 7000 RPM

In corner-to-corner trails, when I pin it at around 6000 RPM's, the tach hangs at 7000 RPM's for like 2-seconds before sweeping to 8000-ish and really taking off. It seems there are not many clutch kits developed for this vs. 800. Anyone have some ideas or experience with re-clutching?

Thanks

I just had my secondary spring swapped for an 800r spring under warranty. Seems as though the stock 600 springs are heated up with some milage, thus weakening them. The problem only got worse for me, and we checked everything from top to bottom with no success, until we hit p the spring.

how did you get them to spring for this under warranty (Ya--sorry about the corny pun, there..)? How do you PROVE a flawed non-broken "functioning" part to a dealer and convince them to do that changeover with a NON-specified part as a remedy for the situation?

Note: raising belt about 1/16th above sheave AND setting clickers to #4 (8200 RPM's tach-indicated), cured lots of it--not perfect....

I spent 3 weeks going back and forth, changing this and that. Have the dealer call BRP and talk to the tech guys, they are discovering this is a known problem on the 600's and should have no issue taking care of it. Or you could bring it to my dealer. They went head over heals to fix a sled I didn't even buy from them, and have been nothing but absolutely helpful and every situation. Check out Profile Motorsports (Phone # = 603-752-5000) in Gorham, NH. Matt is the tech to ask for, he will make sure you get taken care of.

Changing the secondary is the ONLY change you made? See, Billy the Hillbilly at Howard's--who is very respected for his clutch kits, is trying to sell me a stiffer PRIMARY (from a stage 1 kit, I believe) as the solution....Very confusing. Cudneys does make a dedicated 600 SDI kit, then there is the Doo Talk thread saying not too good results across the board from that kit.

Thanks

The dealer DID put an entire new primary on, but in my case is did not work. We did the Primary, then the fuel system, then ECM and EGT sensor (Together) and finally the secondary spring. They did each of these changes one by one (with the exception of the ECM and EGT sensor, which were done at the same time.) and I tried each change for a couple days. Nothing changes until we swapper the primary. Like I said, my top end dropped to about 93mph, so you lose some on top, but you gain a ton on the bottom end.
