I rarely ride trail anymore, just picked up an Arctic Cat M8 SnoPro and can't justify keeping my Apex if it will just sit. I still want to have a backup/trail sled but just something much cheaper. I have a local guy who wants to trade me his 2001 Yamaha SRX Triple/Triple with 3500 miles and $4000 for my Apex. The guy is the original owner, took excellent care of it and it needs nothing. My Apex is in great shape, has 3500 miles, extended warranty and a few extras. He said his sled is worth $2500 and I am looking to get $6500 for mine... so numbers wise it lines up. Can anyone give me any honest opinions of this sled. I hear they are great running, handling, and reliable sleds.

They are a fast, fun sled to ride but they arn't too good on bumpy trails due to their low-rider suspension. I actually had alot of problems with mine (I bought it new), but nothing to do with the motor except for leaking powervalves...I would check the drive axle bearing in it (opposite the chaincase).

What he said about the suspension^^^. That can be helped some by picking up some used Viper shocks for $100 to gain another 3" of travel. Reliable motors, alot of power, great top end. Great handling when set up right. I believe '01's are considered the best year. The price is consistent with a sled in great condition.

Sounds pretty fair to me if his sled is in good shape. Find a used expert x or m-10 for the srx and it would be fun.. The 01's were the fastest years made.
RacingChick224
They're fast, handle great, and have alot of torque. We ran my brothers 700 on the trail for a year before converting it to a race sled. thumbsup.png He runs 700, 800, 900, and 1000 trail stock with it.. so that should tell you something. thumbsup.png

Not to break the thread but just curious... why was the '01 faster than '00 or '02? Didn't they all have the same machined porting, carb specs, etc? Was there anything mechanically different?
rsvectorfreak
I'm not sure why but i think it still holds the fastest ET for a stock sled in the quarter mile.

I thought the 2000 srx held that title.

Bulletfproof sled and one of the fastest "out of the box" sleds ever made. Great for groomed trail and lake running. In the rough it will beat the shit out of you. Price is good. Pick up a viper skid cheap and stretch to 136". That would kick ass beer4.gif

I miss my SRX - 00-02 were basically the same. My buddy had a 01 and I had an 00. Both ran pretty much the same. I wish I never sold it.

I think you have a pretty good deal worked out. It will be an excellent back up, and with the low miles it will last. just stay ahead of the clutch buttons, belts and slides, clean your clutches and pv's regularly... and you'll be fine.

btw, If you squeze a couple hundred more out of the apex it will cover a set of used viper shocks blahblah1.gif just a suggestion lol

I have a mint trail ported srx listed in the classified section.Take a look,im only asking 3500.00.

That deal ended up falling through... but I found another one. I now have a 2002 Viper ER in cherry condition. It is totally stock and almost as clean as new. I dunno if I am gonna do anything to it or leave it as is. I won't ride it too much so there is no point in pipes and other expenses.

See if the "updates" (shox, rear HX) were done. I have an '02 and you need them, trust me. Bulletproof sled beer4.gif

Havent been here for a bit.
Look under and see if the heat exchanger is installed or just the cross tube. You'll know for sure if shox r done as soon as you sit on it. Stock ones wont budge. beer4.gif
