hey guys i rode my 07 crossfire 8 190 miles today and i wasnt sure if i would have enough oil, but i made it.. Although the oil light did start flickering at about 160 miles and by 190 it would blink on almost every snow drift. so my question is does this light ever come on permanently or just keep flickering on and off until you run right out? What kind of high mileage rides have you guys done on one tank of oil?
nd_rice
They eventually come on steady. When rws and me did our 300+ plus mile ride by the time we got back to the trailer both of ours were on steady. He has an 08 and I have an 06. So I would assume it's the same for 07.

That day we went 334 miles and I started with a full tank and had to add one quart, and I'm still running rich. I beleive rws went that whole day on one full oil tank, dont quote me though ask him to be sure.

wow over 300 miles on a tank of oil? why the heck does it come on at 160 already....just annoying on a long ride
nd_rice
They will flash for a LONG time before it comes on steady. You might be running rich like me. I think i rode for fifty miles before it came on steady.

oh its definitely rich, itll puff pretty good when im taking off after stopping along the trail... but i figure with 4000 miles on it and no problems i wanna leave it..

You guys went the whole 334 miles without adding oil ? Did I understand that right ? Wow !

I went thru one full tank and then had to add one quart to make it. I believe he didnt add any....could be wrong though.

Ohhh that makes sense lol. I thought when you said you had to add 1qt you meant u did 300+ mi and had to top it up with 1 qt, that's one lean mix! 1qt + 1 tank sounds about right give or take.
Bopper
guyfromthenorth how many miles are you getting until the oil light stays on steady?

To avoid problems I've always carried extra oil in the trunk. I've run through 2 full tanks of gas and no had that oil light come on, but have never run it lower than that without topping it up. I guess I was just scared of dancing with the devil lol

ya i was just curious as i did almost 200 miles yesterday.. after 100 miles when i filled the gas it took 32 litres, and the guage was reading empty for a long time. how many litres can you fit in these tanks?

Not sure on the oil but I know the gas tanks are 12gal (12x3.78 will give the literage). Mine reads E long before it's empty, in fact I'd almost hazzard as guess E is more like 1\2 tank. I left my place while right on E, drove 15miles to the gas station and the tank only took 32l (8gal roughly) so I had a third of a tank left still, easily and it was on E from the ride before today so who knows how far below E I technically was.

wow i found a fuel mileage converter and it turns out im getting 14mpg canadian on my modded xfire8 with 1.5" track and i weigh around 300 pounds... pretty good mileage isnt it? also this is after the reflash
shnizzelfizzel
i rode 105 miles last weekend and i needed 1 quart of oil,my f7 used to go 160 miles before needing a quart
Bopper
wow shnizzelfizzel something isnt right there man. the sled should do 200miles minimum before the oil lights on steady
shnizzelfizzel
the most i ever went was 110,light was flickering and added 1 quart and needed a couple ounces more,i keep trying to figure out the oil ratio but i seem to get confused,i ride a decent speed, not slow,i now add oil to the top of the jug just to make it!sled does average 11.5-12mpg but figuring out the oil usage confuses me,
MonsterM7
Dam you guys use a lot of oil. The oil light will start flickering with 1/3 left. My last ride I managed around 11mpg on my M7 with the 2.25" track and Im around 260 in my gear. In about 60mi I only used 375ml(12.5oz) of oil and 5 gallons of gas.
Horbachj
Mine came on around 160-170 yesterday, when I looked in to double check the sensor, about 1/4 inch of the float inside the tank was showing, sitting on level ground. Is this about right for oil usage then? guessing a tank of oil to 200 miles?
MonsterM7
^^^^^^Its not accurate to base oil use from miles. Some times you can burn threw a tank of fuel in 50mi or less, or you can make a tank last 125+mi. You need to base it on fuel to oil. Fill both and ride, refill both and record how much of each you used. 50:1 is ideal. Seems like a lot of Cats came rich from the factory. Lucky for me mine came at 51:1 from Cat. 3000 trouble free miles.
shnizzelfizzel
159 miles,13.8 gallons of fuel,46 ounces of oil?
bee1971
I had this under another thread

50:1 is wide open throttle all the time

11 gallons X 128 = 1408 Divided by 28 oz = 50.28 ratio

So your sled averages 11 mpg - So 28 oz of oil should last about 121 miles - 32 oz (1 quart) should last 138 miles

Oil Capacity is 3.2 Quarts - So 138 X 3.2 = 423 miles per tank of oil

60:1 on average

11 gallons X 128 = 1408 Divided by 23 oz = 61.21 ratio

So your sled averages 12 mpg - So 23 oz of oil should last about 132 miles - 32 oz (1 quart) should last 183 miles

Oil Capacity is 3.2 Quarts - So 183 X 3.2 = 561 miles per tank of oil

When oil light stays on constant - Should have enough oil for another gas tank of fuel

Saw my oil light , just start to flicker when hitting some bumps/throttle this past weekend - 250 miles

Well 110 miles at 12mpg = 9.16 gallons

9.16 X 128 = 1172

1172 Divided by 34 oz of oil = 34:1 oil ratio
Start adjusting

110 miles at 11mpg = 10 gallons

10 X 128 = 1280

1280 Divided by 34 oz of oil = 37:1 oil ratio

Mine was running about 32 to 1. i backed the oil pump off 2 turns and checked again it was about 52 to 1. I went on a 325 mile ride and the oil light started flickering at 235 miles and was on pretty steady at 270. i dumped a qt in at 270 just to play it safe ive burned down one engine running it out of oil because it "should" go one more tank when the light comes on.
shnizzelfizzel
looks like it's time to adjust mine 2 turns and then recheck!
shnizzelfizzel
so far 2 turns longer and it is 54-1 in my first testing,a lot better!was on the river beating on it as much as i could also driving 45mph speed limit,it averaged 15.5mpg compared to the 12 it usuall got,but not much snow out there.
Bopper
did u notice any low end performance increase?
shnizzelfizzel
not really as i was on ice mostly and have been playing with clutching,it seems smoother with the acceleration low end though!
