I'd like to take a little longer ride than I'm used to, which means going to somewhere that's got gas. I've heard a lot of people talk about the Belmont store. How do I get there from the trails? Is it clearly marked?

It pretty much just 7 north. Im not really good on giving directions but its usually marked pretty decent. If i can find it anybody can. The food is pretty good there also. Would have went this weekend but put a whole in the front heat exchanger on my way back to woodford lake.

I don't have my map on me, and the intersection markers on VAST's website are tough to read - but I *THINK* its RD79. Near the intersection of 127 and 7?

Yes, it's clearly marked. There is a sign on a tree that will point to the left. I think you can also buy gas at the Brooklyn Pub in Mount Holly, or where Trail 12 crosses auto road 100 in Weston.

Thanks for the info. In looking at the trail map, I see an "FG" right at RD81, but RD81 isn't on 7, it's on 7A. Hopefully somebody can confirm the intersection. I'm dieing to take a nice long ride.

hey Jim, when are you going on that ride? i may be interested, made the trip over there a couple of weeks back. just an FYI , the trail down to the store is just a cow path, didn't want you looking for a groomed trail that leads down to it.
Slednecker
7A is correct...the trails are generally pretty rough right by the entrance. When you come from Mt. Holley on 7 you would take a LT onto 7A. You'll cross 2 or 3 roads...go through some tight woods and come out in a field on top of a hill. The entrance is on the LT. If you miss the turn in...you'll come to Star Lake which would be your indication that you missed the turn.

don't recall signage telling you where the store is....but I could be wrong...I just know how to get there.

Photo below would be the view once you reach the field. The "cow path" is to the left.

Hey Jim We go that way all the time. It is about 70 miles from a to z parking lot. Go past jenks intersection on 7 north the next few miles aren't always the best but you will pass an old ski area. Then a parking lot then the trails usually are excellent. FOllow 7 north to RD82. go left to stay on 7 north 1/2 mile rd83 take a right. (if you stay straight you will go to Danby They also have a store and gas. ) stay on 7n you cant miss it. There is a local path to belmont but if the trails are done it is not too bad. If the last leg gets too rough turn around come down 7s and take a right at RD83 follow 5 mile or so to danby. Both destinations are good and there is only about five miles that seperate them..Thanks for you "real" assessments of the trails they are very helpful for us down in ct going to woodford. The riding out in that area is very good you wont be disapointed hope thjis helps any questions give me a shout

I did a loop up by there last year, the trail to the store was clearly marked from the VAST trails, but there was a sign posted on the VAST sign stating they did not have gas, and we were getting low at that point, we decided to try the Brooklyn Pub only to find that it was closed during the week, we made it to the Plymouth country store to get gs riding on fumes. Hope that helps, I don't know if they have gas or not, but there is no place to fuel up around Ludlow either.

Just north of the OKEMO state forest. Follow either signs to the store or STAR lake. Great people, just got their gas back. Brooklyn pub is only open on the weekends...I think. The Weston store is a little closer if your'e coming from the South, but this is off the loop a bit. (unlss you want to circle through Chester/ Springfield.)

I'm not sure yet. I have every other friday off (not this one coming up) and I'm always available on weekends. If you want to coordinate a ride up there, PM me. I'm always interested in these kinds of rides!

We found out this weekend that the Brooklyn Pub will be open this President's week. Great time this weekend and the food was terrific.
