I just wanted to say this year I bought an 07 IQ fst, had all updates done. Sold my 05 900 that went excellant when set up properly. But going to take a hard hit , I moved it and bought the 07 fst. I figured I would get the fst ride it and get the 4 stroke thing out of my system, sell it off and get an 09 800. I studded it up , clutched it and off on the first ride. Unloaded it off the trailer for a day with the guys. Hit the first field and laid on the throttle and holy sh*t, the front end was 2 feet in the air and pulling on an 02 800 xc like crazy.(single piped slp 800xc ) I got 17 mpg first tank, yeh it a little heavy. The funny thing is how polaris promised my the 900 was going to be a rocket, then fastest corner to corner, then it was not built to be fastest, mine did go well but it got a bad rap, this fst thing has not been bragged up, and i think its the sleeper sled of the year, it moves around and up hills effortless. Just my review smiley-faces7.gif

Thanks for the review polaristuner9. I have been following the treads over the last few years on the FST's and think that Polaris got it right in 08 as most guys are happy much like you. I just wish the guys that have them would get on and post more reviews. I can't wait to see what 09 brings.....

My 07 FST is awesome on the lake and in the woods. It handles well on the twisty trails and just flat out flies on the open terrain. Radar run at 1000ft =102mph Trail riding we get around 16mpg yes.gif

rode the lakes in district 10 and 11 this weekend 107 mph with 3 inches of new snow .

I agree with Polaristuner 100%!!! I recently bought an 06 FST Classic leftover. My other sled is a stock 02 XCSP 700. I thought I was giving up alittle power and speed for the comfortable ride of the M-10 and all the creature comforts that come stock on the FST. I was extremely surprised getting it out on the lake and in the trails. This sled is every bit of a 700 two stroke. It may flatten out alittle up top, but I couldnt push it too hard as it isn't broken in yet. In a few short bursts dragging my buddies on the lake, I dusted them coming off the start. At about 60mph when I let off, they were still behind me.. I am very excited about the sled.
My FST only has 150miles on it, but my fuel mileage was only 12.5 (hand calculated). Compared to what others are getting, I know it will get better with more miles, so I'm not that worried, YET.... The other good thing about this sled is all the updates were done before I picked it up, so I didn't have any of the issues that others have dealt with over the last two years..
Going up to Vermont this week, so I hope to put 500+ on it.. Polaris definitely nailed this sled and the motor as well. I would encourage anyone to ride an FST if they get the chance, they will be at the dealer shortly afterwards buying thier own!!!!

Now that's what I'm talking about!!! All good stuff guys keep the info coming......

I just picked up an 07 FST SB and I really couldn't be happier. It my first sled, after recently riding my dads fuse 900 I'm extra happy with mine. Now just gotta play with suspension a bit to try and make steering alittle easier.

bought my 2006 this fall and now have over 1,000 miles on it. Did my first Oil change (in about 30 min)and fixed a few small items with the help of HCS and I have to say this is the best darn machine I have ever owned. And I have owned 14 prior machines. (my last machine was a 700 XC Delux)Mileage is about 15 and thats with being on the throttle hard at least several time on each tank full. Top so far has been 105 and I know there is more to go, but I usually run out nerves or room. The ride is outstanding smooths the bumps out and makes them bearable, your always going to have bumps on groomed trails unless your retired and get to ride during the week. I have to say the Four stroke is the way to go, in fact my wife rode mine this past weekend and she didnt want to give it back. Looks like I will be in the market for another Polaris 4 stroke soon. thumbsup.png

Bought a new leftover 06' FST last week. It had all the updates already from the dealer. I put 200 miles on the new FST over the past 2 days on a quick trip to Vermont. I didn't really get on it till about 175 miles...When I did, It sure did come to life. I didn't take it above 86 mph for now... Want to put a few more miles on it before I really get into it. So far, It is awesome. For the first tank, I calculated 12.7 mpg. Not too thrilled about it, but I hear it gets better as the motor gets broken in. There is however, an awkward sound coming from either the alternator belt/pully, or possibly the drive clutch. When the sled sits at idle, there is a high pitch steady squeak. Once rpm go up, it disappears. Has anyone experienced this?

Just had the same noise show up. Haven't found the source yet.

That is from your drive belt. You have 2 choices to fix it, or do both. The squeel is caused by your belt dragging on a dirty drive clutch. Very common, no big deal. You can loosen the drive belt by adjusting the driven clutch / belt deflection. The squeel will go away, but the clutch sheaves will still be dirty. Its very easy and directions are in the owners manual. Or better yet, remove the belt and clean the drive clutch sheaves (area where belt contacts clutch). Use a scotch pad or similar to "sand" the sheaves. Rotate the drive clutch to get at all areas. You will see black stuff on sheaves near the shaft. This is whats squeeling, so rub that off with pad.

Thanks for the info. Will try that next warm day.

PS: Why do you think this happened with such low miles? I never had this happen with any other sled.

The sled had sat in a crate since about Dec 05' and came out recently when I bought it. Maybe the compounds in a drive belt wear down after a while??? The noise started as soon as I took it off the trailer for the first ride. Maybe the belt wasn't warm enough when I first took off... I'm going to pull the belt off this morning and check the clutch sheaves for belt residue/dirt and check the deflection like snowbeeler suggetsed. I'll post my results later this morning

It will only squeel when there is proper belt deflection. If your belt is a little on the loose side it will not sqeel. Most sleds are run with more deflection than recomended. On 2 cycle motors, running the proper deflection would sometimes pull the idle down also.
I did not mention above, but make sure the shaft is clean between the sheaves. Do not scratch the shaft as this area contacts the sheave bushing.
Lukin4snow
Cleaned both drive clutch sheaves and adjusted the belt deflection. It was 3/4"-7/8" at best. It is now at the recommended 1 1/4" and there is no squeeling. It took about 10 minutes to make necessary adjustments and clean the sheaves. Thanks for the info snowbeeler

Thanks for the info. Will clean and check deflection tomorrow when this blasted rain is over.

its simply amazing.....

the feeling you have inside you when you pull into an area with a huge population of sleds, and know that you can rock all of them at the flick of your thumb....its priceless.

i keep my cockyness to a low....i wait until somebody starts to bad mouth...then you challenge them....then they scramble for excuses

Are these things that fast right out of the box or are you guys clutching them???

150 hp out of the box isn't the most in the world, but pretty fast for stock. I haven't clutched.
BirdieHunter57
07 FST IQ LX 97 MPH GPS stock out of the box , only 200 miles on her now , hope to see a bit more after 1000 miles

Good stuff guys. That FST Switchback is looking better and better all the time.....

I'm not really sure there's much out there in stock form that can take an FST corner to corner. Mine falls off fairly quickly once i hit the upper 80's/90's so it's no lake racer but in short drags and corner to corner it's VERY fast. Hard to describe but as soon as you slam the flipper it's game over.

I'm pretty happy with ours .......now that the bugs are getting out of them. Mileage is up to 17 now when it was at 11 when bought new. But my biggest peeve is the rear end. We're having alot of trouble with the front torque arms breaking and now both sleds drive cogs are worn right out. And you can't just buy the cogs....you have to buy the whole driveshaft at $400 bucks. Ours sits about 1 and a half inches off the ground at the back of the track and can't figure out why. Been like that since new. I'm wondering if this is causing alot of these issues. Also both sleds don't like studs in them either. They keep ripping the track lengthwise. Tried 3 tracks now. Dunno. Lastly, I haven't been home much for tinkering but my buddies attack smokes my ass all the time. I can hold even with him while the overboost is in but once that is over he leaves me easily. For now I'm just happy to be riding so I haven't done much investigating yet but it is a very convincing lead over me. I love the sled though..... just a few issues to look after.

i have raced 3 attacks the not even close you must have a m10 slows you down 10mph on any sled .

that's what my buddy with the attack and I were wondering, but there are others here that seem to fair better............

You now have to contend with the New Turbo from Artic Cat for 09 apparently it is 177 hp.

Any thoughts on what the 09 FST will bring.

Agree-I purchased a non current 2006 FST Classic and wow, I will never go back.
Now I am moving to a 2008 IQ Turbo-same sled, without mirrors. I am told it gets better mileage and HP has been boosted.

I have been looking at getting a FST SB to go with my SKS.

As far as the power on these things go, they are under rated in real world conditions. I have seen dyno tests showing about 145 HP but I look at it this way; when it comes to power to weight, there is no discression. Look at a 08 700 Dragon and a 08 FTS IQ, Put them together and let them run, the FST will walk all over it, I doubt anyone here will disagree with me.... Now lets look at power to weight, Both are "rated" at 145HP yet the FST admittedly weighs 100 POUNDS MORE!! SO what is the deal? Torque production for one, and with my experience with turbo engines, they love colder weather. Yes, a 2 stroke reacts in the same way but that is just the begining. With lower air charge temps, timing can be added and fuel can be taken out (for a given air mass), certainly, the polaris mapping is doing this. Not to mention if the operating pressure ratio of the turbo then becomes a factor. As the ambient air pressure as well as humidity, falls, the compressor may begin to work in a much more efficient island on it's map. This could be as much as 10% depnding on air pressure at time of testing. Beleive me, Polaris has thought this out as well.

Bottom line here is, dyno rooms with brake specific power outputs based on SAE standards and out in the COLD hard world don't jive.

I used to love cold nights at the strip in my stang, she would pick up 3-4mph when the air temp was around 50-60deg vs 80-90 during the day. Going from 125-128/129mph in a 3200lb car is about 40-50hp..... It was making about 500rwhp so about 570-580 at the flywheel. So I would gain about 7-8% engine output from only a 30-40deg drop in ambient air temp. Mix in a low relative humidity and man she would come alive. That's not changing a thing. If I leaned on it a little more she would have cracked 130mph easy.
