I'm sure it's a nice GPS but you won't be able to use any snowmobile trail gps maps.

first, It is supposed to take overlays quite easily ??? just what I read . and second, I know the trails in my area just looking for 2 tracks and fire roads mainly . but thanks for the input . Mark

That depends on what you mean by overlays. You can record your own tracks or download them from elsewhere and overlay them on the DeLorme maps, but you can't overlay other maps, as far as I know.

What is a good unit to buy, I would like to stay with GARMIN, I have that in 2 vehicles, I want to get trail maps for NY and CO and I guess put them over topo maps?? I'm just getting back into sledding this year, when I used to ride, mid-late 80's, didn't have things like this. I'm not too worried about cost, I believe spend it the first time and get a good product. I can use all the help I can get....THANKS Also I am thinking of going to Tug Hill next Sat, I live in Richmond VA, so if anyone would let me ride with them it would be great, I have never been....

I don't have any CO maps or tracks, so if you ride out there, make sure to record some and upload them! Once I get enough, I can make a map.

I'm thinking of the 60CSX, I am leaving for Buena Vista Co on the 21st, for 3 days of riding the contential divide. I went last year as well, rented an M7 and a guide, it was amazing. I want to get one in the next couple of days so I can learn to use it to track where we go. I tried to up load some pics from last year, but it says they are too large..I'm new to this so I will try to figure out how to put them up

It's a nice unit, I have one. I have all the NY trails on it. I think they have the best maps available. One of the reasons that I went with the Delorme GPS is because I' had been using their map software for many years. They came out with this GPS just over a year ago. Delorme had a few issues with it and have updated the firmware a few time. Overall, I really like the unit. You get a lot for the $$. I use it primarily for snowmobiling and it's worked out well. Besides the regular "topo" maps, you can use USGS 7.5 quad maps, aerial imagery, and satellite imagery. The satellite imagery can get expensive, not sure about the others. One of the downsides is a smaller user base then the "big" guys. Makes it harder to get 3rd party maps and help. But Delorme support is very good.

Did you get the .shp file from NYS and convert it for use on the Delorme?

Yes, except I couldn't import it directly into Delorme's Topo software. I found some with Delorme's XMap software to convert it for me. I'm using last years data. Do you know if they released an updated version? I think last years data was released in Feb.
sledzeppelin
Cool - I didn't know that was possible.

I've written to the person I got the NY data from last year and haven't heard back. Hopefully soon.
