I am thinking of buying an 02 Summit 800. What are the common problems with these machines? If anyone has one would you buy another one?

I have owned one for 2 years now, and its pretty much been ridden hard every weekend all winter for those 2 seasons. It has proven to be very reliable. When i first purchased it had an after market exhaust can on it. Sounded awsome but gave the motor a low end bog. So i put a stock exhaust can on it and it has run perfect ever sence. Other than the exhaust problem I have had a problem with the oil resivor top being misformed a bit so when the machine is at an angle oil will sometimes leak out from the cap. One of the rear shocks was blown out and I had to rebuild it, but i consider that as regular maintence. Should be a great machine though. good luck. I would recomend it to someone.

I have and 2002 700 I love it when it is running. I had an issue with the water pump. Dose the machine have the electric reverse? if so watch your water pump. It is directly driven of the crank and is threaded on using opposite direction threads but when the engine is put into revers it can cause the pump to loosen and the constant titaning and losing can cause the impeller to strip out like mine did. its a simple fix and if you machine has a few miles on it it my be worth changing it. other than that its the funniest and most reliable machine I have ever owned also if you have carb heat be careful if you leave it on it can cause the machine to run rich.
