I have a 96' ZRT 600 with a fresh top end, BM pipes, stock silencer, reeds, and milled heads. I don't know were to start jetting it, it has 360's now. It idles real high, even before the work. It starts at about 3000 and falls to about 2000. Does this sound lean? Thanks.

well the high idle can be cured by turning in the pilots a half turn each till it stops if youre in more then 1 turn you need next size pilot jets 360 may be close hard to say just play it safe go up a couple extra for startes, or call black magic tech im sure theyed let ya know what to put in. have fun.

In an attempt not to sound stupid, this is my first sled. The screws I am looking for are on the left side of the carb as you are sitting on the machine with a flathead slot and a spring? Is it like a car, turn the screw all the way one way and then back it out? Thanks.

Do yourself a favor and buy a factory service manual for your sled. You'll have pretty good pictures and explanations of most of the systems on your sled.

The slotted screws with the springs around them are for adjusting the throttle opening at idle (idle speed).
The air bleed screws (slotted brass screw) are at about a 45deg angle from the top of the carb. I believe the spec. is 1-1/4 turns out from closed, fine tune from there.
I went from the stock pilot jets (35) to 30's and my idle seems to have improved.
I have heard many people in our elavation using 340 mains (360 are stock and too fat).
Have you synched your carbs and oil pump cable?
Be sure that the oil pump closes fully when the throttle is closed. The pump on my 600 was hanging up (corrosion and oxidation buld-up under the spring). If it doesn't you'll get lots of smoke and high oil consumption when trail riding.
Get the manual and have fun getting to know your ZRT. Frank

Now I am the proud owner of 2 96' ZRT 600's. Freshened both up last weekend. The wifes is all stock but seemed to use a ton of oil the first tank of gas, smoked a bit too. Maybe I need to check the cable and adjust. Mine, milled the heads, BM pipes, reeds, and fooled with the clutch a little. Started with 380's and am going to step down one size for next weekend, a little too fat. Has a slight bog and wanted to foul plugs hill climbing. Seem to experience excessive ski carry under hard excelleration. No longer do I get beat by my buddies SRX 700 with a few extra's though. Nice.
