There are exchangers that run all along the sides of the tunnel (new design this year I believe) but I can't tell if there is an exchanger at the front of the tunnel.

Anyone know?

yes there is

There's a front heat exchanger (#17 above), running board edge-rail exchangers (#12 above), and also the tunnel itself has integrated heat exchangers (note the crossover hose #14).

The earlier years had a radiator up in the nose of the sled. This is eliminated on the 08's.

Thanks guys. Picture says it all.

Looks like if I run some studs along the center of my track (and only the center) the only vulnerable area will be that front exchanger. The ones along the running boards and integrated to the tunnel won't be a problem since a flung stud should only contact the center of the tunnel (where the exchangers are not).

I threw a stud through the intergrated tunnel exchanger on Sunday from a track lug positon near the edge of the track. Am trying to aviod that happenign again.

May try to fashion a protective plate for the center of the front heat exchanger (leaving the edges open to still do their thing). Anyone ever try that?

Figure if I cover up that vulnerable position I'll be almost certain not to get screwed again.

I just replied in your other post as well. The underside of the tunnel itself has long flat heat exchangers that are in the direct line of fire as well. Look under the rear of the sled at the two long flat exchangers that appear to run the full length of the tunnel, direclty above the track. I think you're overlooking those...

Like I said in that post...use your hands as your guide when the engine is fully warmed up and coolant is circulating. There's a lot of hot spots under there, they all carry coolant and have thin walls that could be easily pierced by a flung stud. To cover them up would eliminate all the snow spray that is needed to cool the engine.

They definitely are there on my 08 Dragon 700 Switch anyway...so I will assume they're on your 600 as well.
