Picked up a brand new 600 Cleanfire Dragon Swtichback on the weekend and went riding with a buddy on his 06, MXZ 600 SDI.
We rode a total of 600 miles in three days.
Fuel mileage on the Dragon: 13 mpg The Doo: 17 mpg.
Oil Consumption: Dragon 7 qts. Doo: 2.5 qts. I cannot believe that Polaris sends out motors this badly calibrated. There is no way in hell this thing would pass the EPA emmission specs. Last year I had a 07 600 IQLX. Same thing. When we would get back to the hotel room at night my snowsuit smelled so oily that I had to open the windows to air out the hotel room. My 72 ,340 TX does not burn oil that bad. Fouled two plugs after 68 miles.
I don't believe they have the timing retarded to limti performance but if they do I would like to know. After 600 miles this sleds would do 90mph tops. My 02 600 PROX would blow this machine away.
Front shocks: How do you adjust them to put more ski pressure on them. Nothing in the owners manual tells you how to adjsut air pressure. Maybe you can't. Dealer did not know how to adjust them either.
The chassis is amazing. Best handling Polaris I have ever rode. It would just pound through the bumps and track straight as an arrow.
If only Polaris could gt these engines dialed in from the factory.
What have the rest of you found about this issue?

My 121" 600 Dragon hasn't fouled a plug in the 1500 miles I have rode it. I used 1.5 gallons of oil in those miles. I assume the Dealer never looked at the oil pump before it went out the door! Fuel consumption is probably about what you will get with it. I average 13-14 mpg.
As for the front shocks, to my understanding there is no adjustment on them. I get the ski lift once in awhile also. Haven't figured that out yet.
Great sled!

I have an 07 600 CFI....it used a lot of oil for the first couple of tanks (roughly 400 miles) I was told the timing is programmed to run rich for the first 4 or 5 hun miles. Just after the 500 mile mark, I took it in to the dealer for the first service. They tightened up and adjusted ebverything after the break in. (also got a recall notice about the oil pump adjuster arm, I guess the cable stretch made it out of sync or something) Anyways, I have been getting better and better gas & oil usage from that point onwards to about where it sits right now (1500mile) It has since levelled out. I was worried too at first. Also, it ran like a dog for the first little while. At around 900 miles, top speed went from 80 miles per hour to about 110 miles per hour. Now I'm happy with the performance.

The 600 is the only good sled they make now besides the 8 hopefully. My 7 is not fast.

Polaris has never used a timing burn in chip like Ski Doo. I think your dealer is BS'n you, but I guess I could be wrong.
How about too tight a track that finally becomes loose enough to make a big difference after 500 miles or so ?
I can prove that on our 600HO with carbs !!! My 900 also gained good speed and fuel effeciency after 500 miles. I did not check the before tension but I did the after, so I can't 100% comment on that other than I did tighten it's track later on and it instantly lost mph and fuel mileage.
BTW: 13 mpg on a 600 hotrod motor is really pretty normal. Only exception is the Doo 600 SDi.
Oil, well, without doing math, seems to be alot and should be investigated further. Remember, it's oil/gas ratio, not oil/miles.
