Just when I have my sled dialed in to my likeing, the diamond drive takes a shit!!!
Went to give a little throttle the rpm's climbed, but the speed didn't. Thought I blew a belt, lifted hood to find belt fine and oil all over clutch area. Took off belt and was able to spin secondary with very little resistance. TOTALLY BUMMED, called dealer he said I'm the third case, the other two were x-fire 1000 running 65/55 gearing.?.? Coincidence? or should I change my gearing?
The dealer said it would be covered by warranty.

Oh yeah. I was one of the first to have it happen. Mine spun the gear on the output shaft to the drivers. That was big bucks to fix.

Yes, I've heard of this happening. 08s are suppose to have updated stronger parts.

mine didn't grenade but started to make noise one day. gears were all chewed up with only 700 miles on it.. replaced it under warranty. I did have a high spped vibration I kind of noticed since new but didn't think much of it. With the new DD vibe is gone and top speed is about 6 mph faster.

Not uncommon but I don't think it has anything with the gear ratio. Mine is pooched also and it is 60/60 ratio. Still waiting for parts!

Mine died a week ago - startet making bad noise. I also had a vibration at high speed just before, didn't think it was the DD.
Another guy on a XF 800 07 had the same problem a few weeks ago. Hope warrenty will take care of it, even though we only have 12 months warrenty and my sled is 14 months old.

My 06 Crossfire 7 went at 2100 miles w/ 5 weeks left on warranty. It was the 60/60 gearing but the dealer accidently installed 65/55. On mine, I'm sure it was due to the secondary floating on the DD shaft. Then developing a slight wobble, which took out the shaft bearing, then seal, puked the oil, coated the belt, and then I noticed the belt slipped. Was able to limp it back 35 miles at 35mph. Then off to the dealer for warranty. I've put about 170 miles on it since, but there was 18-24 inches of fresh powder on the trail base. So I was not able to see if MPG improved or top speed. I did average 10 MPG, which is a good sign. Maybe 11-13 MPG???

Thinking of going to 65/55 gears also. Please let me know if you gained top end. It is my opinion that my Crossfire 800 would benefit of taller gearing.
thanks in advance.

Mine crapped out on Tuesday (2/5/08) up in the U.P., its in at the dealer, they can't look at it until Monday, but this sure sounds like what happened to mine except my secondary (and DD and track) is locked up. Kind of unexpected on a brand new sled (06 X7 purchased 12/2007) and of course we just got 18" of snow in S. WI... Anybody have any experience on how the repairs have been holding up? I wonder if this is just a few bad parts or if it is more of a design flaw? I sure hope it is bad parts, I don't want to be dealing with this for the life of the sled...

The 65/55 gearing would gear you like the CF1000. Our 06 CF only have a 9T driver, you have the 10T driver. IMO 65/55 would be too tall for you. The CF1000 does not rev as high as the 800 and it has more torq. You can get a set of DD gear for $180, I would suggest the 63/57(10% overdrive) or the 62/58(7% OD). Good Luck

My track was also locked up. (What a bitch to tow!!!)
Ended up having a blown seal, then lower bearing went. What a mess! All new internals are supposed to be here Monday.
Just out of curiosity, any ideas how much, if any speed I would lose on top if I went to 62/58 gears? Dealer says it seems A/C would like to see these gears go back in it.

it seems like anything over 62/58's seems too high gear for the 700 engine unless you are probably on ice all the time. for me... 60/60 gears in my '05 f7 ext worked real nice instead of the factory 65/55 gears. my riding is thru fields with no trails. 65/55 was steep.

I just got done rebuilding my wifes Crossfire 600 gearbox
Went to take it for a spin on thursday am and noticed oil all over the clutch sheaves/belt/plastic/engine - WHAT A MESS
Changed oil in it this past summer and took everything apart and cleaned it out and everything looked fine
Must have started leaking on last weekends trip and never noticed it until thursday - Luckily still had some oil in it when i split the case
Replaced all the seals and the bearing on the upper shaft right behind secondary - Thats the seal that was leaking behind the secondary clutch
Local dealer had everything in stock - Looks good after todays ride - Still have some cleaning to do though - Back of primary clutch and belt guard still threw up some leftover residue/oil
Did i mention WHAT A MESS - Oil leaking out splined shaft + clutches spinning at 7800 rpms + 200 miles last weekend and i have no ideal when it let loose = ?!?!?!?!?#@#@#@#@#@#

One more thing
I would love to have 62/58 gears in both Crossfires - That would bee the ticket - And maybe ten tooth drivers
If i was a rich man

Mine went out to totally ruined I have heard that the brass washer where the five gears are brakes and that is what causes it and also the silicone for a gasket is not good but they have came out with a paper gasket for them. also there are better gears u can put in them that are recommended for 165 h.p. or more.

i have a cf7 and had 2 out of five planetary gears blow at 811miles. it was very noisey. pulled her apart (no warr.) metal everywhere, i am very disapointed, this should not happen to a sled with that
few of miles. luckily a cat shop in mi let me use their shop to rebuild it and use their tools! thanks adventure center of marquette.
by the way i had just changed the fluid for the second time. and it WAS full when she blew.
good luck

Does anyone know if a 2005 F7 DD will fit in a 2006 Crossfire 7?
