i have the 04 ZR900 EFI SNO PRO, it has the big lugs, they say 1.25, but if i measure em they are bigger, woody's sent me 1.325's gold diggers, they barely stick past the lug. they grab like crap. i talked to some people over the weekend at ice races and they said for a trail stud to run 1.450 woody's, and it will do alot better!! what do you guys use, and how do you rate em as grabbing on the ice?? i wish there was a way to put chisels on it, but that long of a chisel wouldnt last long, it would break or rip out probably!!!i mostly trail ride and always will, but i like to hit the ice sometimes, especially if your trail goes by ice, i like to mess around on it, but mine will not hook to save its life on the ice. i only have 192 studs in it, but it should do ok with that amount, i know 240 would do alot better! what brand do you use to?? i_need_snow.gif :help: :banghead:

i have the 1.325 in now and they dont stick past the lug, i bought 1.450, i was told to use them! hopefully they work, i thought about getting the lug studs and putting em in to, to add some more traction. woody's said oh ya you want 1.325's thats what you need, but then everyone is telling me woody's is conservative! well i learned now..... ylsuper.gif the 1.45 stick past the lug, i just hope they help hooking up, and then if i put the lug studs to add help maybe it will do ok?? dunno.gif

i would run 240 and stay away from the lug studs i hear that they pull out alot with high hp sled and they dont last. they are good for long lug tracks for little traction. this is what i have heard????

First mistake was buying woody's. second was thinking their other stud would work also. There is a solution. How many miles do you do a year. ? What is most important to you , long stud life , maximum performance ??? My zr 500 went through woody like akid with his holloween candy. It was only a 500 too. Angled backers are definatly the way to go. Daflowgegoer used a mix of woody and studboy chisels. he only broke the woodys'. I use Saber in all my tracks. Saber Traction.com. I do like the stud boys alot they seem like a high quality stud. They also have a game on stud boy to tet your reaction times. Sounds like you'll need practice. frech11.gif

I have a Zr 900 Sno Pro, I used 1.375 Fast Trac Stainless studs this year. With only 160 studs my ice traction was poor and I bent a few over. I had a combination of aluminum disc washers and plastic angled backers. I didn't break or loose any plastic backers but the alumnum discs cracked and broke alot. I saw another zr 900 with 1.475 studs and that is what I am going to run next season with all plastic angle backers. There is room as long as you never ratchet the drive wheels, too loose a track and your going to screw the front heat exchanger.

I tried Woody's Megabites this season, put on about 1100 miles - a lot of that is on the lake, maybe 600 miles trail riding in decent snow. Many tips broke off and they hooked up like crap. Size was 1.075 with a 9878T camoplast track, so they stuck out about 3/8"

I'll try something different next year, maybe with angled backers - who makes the angled backer plates?

I'm going to run 192 again though, any recommendations on a compromise for lake racing and trail riding?

ya i heard the lug studs suck, i was just trying to get suggestion from you guys, you guys know more then me. i know from seeing with my own eyes PLUMMER's F7 hooks like his sled track is the ice, i never seen something hook like that thing and ran with the big hooper cc guys and beat em to..you guys ll have me streered in the right direction now!! i plan on putting some miles on the trails atleast 1000 per year and then do the ice drags to, i will switch the studs over to not wear out my ice drag combo! thanks man ylsuper.gif :div20:

http://www.sabertraction.com/ i check this site out, good studs thats me now i am getting them!! especially when i seen your F7 (plummer) relocate anchor bay back a few feet!!! :beerchug: :div20: :augen41: buttrock.gif

Doesn`t the ZR900Sno-Pro have a 1.375" track??Cause if it does 1.450" is the way yo go. :div20:

Hey did you check out stud boy catpults by any chance. They also look good. or better. I know alot of people will give me an earful and I'm not recomending you do this. But a few gys from Imlay city that I ride with only run with chisels and pics on the trails, they dont wear that much either especially the stud boy and saber. I thought it was crazy too, but they're cheaper and resharpenable. I do know those outlaws are awesome. If you get plastic backers it would be from Saber, and most brands have aluminum. Angled is the best way with these long studs, they prevent rollover wich leads to rips and bends. Relocate ??????? Do you mean moving the ice from a launch ????? Yeah wouldn't that be nice.
red04zr900efisnopro
ya relocate from a hard launch that your sled does, in other words push the ice back..LOL ya i like them studs you recommended from that site. i wiould listen to you anyay seeing how bad your F7 is, that thing runs and hooks hard. ylsuper.gif

Wait a minute I just looked at cats website and it looks like it says the 04 has a 1.25" track and the 05 has a 1.375" track. In that case then 1.325" studs should get plenty of traction. But if you do have a 1.375" track then 1.325" studs won`t do any thing but add weight.Next week I`m installing 96 1.450" MEGABITES and 48 doubledigger backers.(Mine has a 1.375" track)
MONSTER1160
I am running 1.25" x 136" ripsaw with 162 1.5" studboy power points.
I have enough extra studs and with the patten i used i can add more
but i trying to keep down the rotating mass on the track

The more iron you put to the track the more hp it takes to turn it flag_canada.gif
