I was looking at the 276C, but it would need additional software and a handlebar mount.

Then I came across the Zuma 450, its made for motorcycles, comes with ram mount for handlebars. And is preloaded with detailed mapping software. Can get it for $496.00, online. Looks like most everything I would need is bundled in with this one.

Any thougths?

I do not believe the Zumos do tracks...that is to create/save track files or the ability to upload tracks to the unit. For me that is an important feature of any GPS I would want.

I have one that I use on everything. Bike, truck and sled. Go to www.zumoforums.com for answers. You can download tracks. No problems with cold weather operation.

Cool I'll check out zuma.com, thanks. Can I import the trail maps that zeppilinsledder makes?

Several people have told me they've loaded my maps on their Zumos using Mapsource.

Dave thanks for the web site. While reading there I learned that the $496.00 price I found online @ BroadwayCameras.com, was a scam. That saved me a headache.

PCNation has it for $533.00, and Newegg sells it for $552.00. Still cheaper than the 276C with all the add-ons it would need(276C).

The screen on the 276C is alittle larger, and the resolution is a little better on the 276C. But those differences are small. The 276C needs the Garmin memory cards, whereas the Zumo will take a generaic version. The Garmin cards are pricey.

Have you loaded any trail maps on your Zumo? And what is the motorcycle power cable that comes with the unit? Is it a 12V cigarette adapter?

How large is the MP3 memory? Is it based on the SD card slot?

Lots of qustions, thanks in advance.
DaveRT
Have the garmin topo 2008 to load. The motorcycle wire kit is just that. Connect wire to a 12V source and a the other wire to ground. I added a 12V plug to go on my acc. socket on the sled and truck. I use a different plug for my bike. Beemers have a different plug. The unit has a lot of memory by its self. I use a 2 Gig card to load the other stuff. I think it will take a 4 Gig or better. Use www.zumoforums.com for other questions. I don't want get you started on in the wrond direction by mistake.

Why TOPO? I was hoping to load sledzepplin's map over the Nav maps that come with the unit. What does TOPO add?

Topo gives you elevation lines, but more importantly it has much more detailed coverage of lakes, rivers, swamps, trails, etc. You can go to garmin.com and see what it looks like on their online map viewer.

Ok I ordered it today from newegg. The Zumo 450 plus an 8gb SD card. Just under $600 for all of it. I'll take a look at the TOPO. But right now have to figue out how I'm going to wire it into the sled.

Keep the ideas coming please, leaving for the UP on Friday, hoping to have it functional by then.

I ordered this to supply power to the Zumo;

If anyone has any experience hooking this thing up, I'm listening,

Thanks in advance.
DaveRT
I used the supplied mount in the box with the zumo 450. mounted it to the steering post and cut a hole in the pad to fit the ram mount ball. Works great. Does not move around. The power supply you ordered looks like the way to do it. I will use that on my next sled.

I'd also like to know if anyone has used this. I bought it, but haven't hooked it up. Is a rectifier / capacitor needed for the connection from the sled to the battery? I believe that is needed if going directly from the sled to the GPS. Also, I don't care for the power adapter plug part. It's not the "lock" kind.

I spoke with the guy that designed this unit, he led me to believe that nothing else was needed. Just wire it into the sleds accessory AC outlet, and mount the little battery somewhere.

I figure there are two wires to hook up, I'll try it one way, check the output with a muti tester, if I'm getting 12DCV off of the cig plug, then cool. If not, then I'll swicth the two wires and check it again.

But i plan to cut the cig adapter of and replace with a better plug in. I'll post some pics when I get my hands on it.
DaveRT
Careful cutting off the outlet. The parts that covert the a/c to d/c could be in the bottom of the outlet. Check first.

Well, I'm thinking anything after the battery should be 12VDC, but I can piece the wire insulation with the tester, to verify whats there before I cut anything. Good thougth.
DaveRT
Yes the battery is DC. But it is hooked up to the sleds AC to charge it . Those parts are somewhere. The pic looks like it might be in the outlet.

I hooked up my Snobunje Power Cell last week. I have a Crossfire and the accessory wires brown/yellow, were behind the firewall. I bolted the battery to the firewall w/ 2x2 aluminum angle iron. Tied in to the brown/yellow to the white/red Power Cell. Used a 1" hole saw then opened it to 1 1/16 with the dremel. I think all Arctic Cat's have that brown/yellow accessory wires, but they are not always in the same spot. Look behind the headlight area on Firecats. Look at the cluster in the handle bar foam on the old ZR's. Best thing about the Power Cell is your GPS stays on after you shut off the sled.

Thanks for the reply, if I read your post correctly, you hooked the brown to the white, and the yellow to the red?

Is that correct?

Or is it the fact that the sled is AC, the hook-ups will work either way?

Have you had any issues with the cig adapter vibrating loose?

I just took a look at mine. Doesn't look like there are any components in the outlet. Maybe in the top of the battery?

My Power Cell has red and black wires. The red should go to the yellow Cat wire and black to the brown. You can find a connector at Radio Shack or maybe auto parts store. There are AC accessory wires on the ZRs by the headlight and in the handlebar cluster. Where are you going to put the battery? I was just looking and the battery will fit on the right side of the tool compartment if the battery is on the side. Maybe put a little foam in to keep it in place..... I'm still not too sure about the outlet...... I have another one that will hold the power adapter more securely.... I might use that one.

Not sure where I'll put the battery, my sleds EFI, so there's a little less room in the toolbox area (ECM's in there). I haven't recieved the unit from Snobunje yet (should be here this afternoon), but in the pics, the battery is on a bracket. Hoping to use a couple of screws and mount it on the side of the airbox?

But Newegg appears to have messed up, on the shipping of the Zumo, it may not be here before the weekend, that will suck. Leaving for Wetmore on Fri for a week.

The Power Cell comes with 2 "L" shaped bolts and a bracket.

Red Snobunje is power, AC yellow is power, AC brown is ground, Snobunje black is ground, Radio Shack 2 wire plug(white I used for ground, red for power). I used 1" hole saw and opened it up to 1 1/16. Its as tight as can be. I have over 3 1/2 feet of the 2x2 aluminum angle iron left over.

I mounted on my 800, worked great. Bought a new CF, and moved it over to it. Absolutely love it, play mp3's through the collett on my helmet. No issues in the cold whatsoever.

There's 4 different Zumos...why did you choose the 450? I just sold my old gps and am looking for something I can use on both my sled and Motorcycle. Appreciate your thoughts.

OK I guess I'll show my ignorence(sp?). I only looked at the 450 and the 550, The biggest difference I saw with the 550 was the bluetooth capability. I have no use for that.

After I made the purchase I saw some other models (400&500?), but I didn't resaecrh those two before I bought mine, so I can't speak to those.

And I found a sale on the 450, the 550 was almost $300.00 more.
DaveRT
The 400 and 500 Zumos are European modles. I use the 450 on my bike, sled and truck. Happy with all.

The Zumo's look like great units, but after reading the posts on the Zumo blog site...I think I'll wait awhile to see if they can work the bugs out of them.
From your perspective what GPS unit works best for both Motorcycles and Sleds? Kinda on the fence.

Did you check out that site posted here "zumo.com " or something, on that site there talking about hundreds of units that have stop working and had to be sent back. That's what scares me, to have the thing breakdown while on a trip. Other then that, I like the concept of this unit. Personally I'll probably wait till spring before I buy maybe the price will fall a bit more by then.
DaveRT
Have used my 450 on many bike trips, the first one was a 2700 mile trip to Tenn. and never had a problem. Have used on sled 500 miles in Maine and another 400 in Montana, Yellowstone park and Idaho without any problems. Many miles in my truck all with out problems. Have downloaded topo map onto a sd card and use when on sled. Now I am building my own sled trail maps with the save to route function. I couldn't be happier. Check out www.zumoforums.com for a good website as well as the info. on this forum.

Prior to my purchase, I was refered to this site http://www.zumoforums.com/ by daveRT. I did quite a bit of reading there, and as much as I could on here.

I purchased mine from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16858108049 Used thier monety on a (6) month promo deal.

Bought the power supply from http://snobunje.com/store.php?crn=72&r...ion=show_detail as I was diredted from here also.

Hook-up was painless, it works great.

I have no fear that Garmin will stand behind the unit if anything does come up. Hell I sent my old Garmin 12 back to them when the screen froze , they rebuilt the complete unit for $60.00, it looks brand new.
