Avoid 1993's.
and the '94's. Polaris finally got the Storm sorted out around 1996, the '98's were the pinnacle, but the next year the XCR800 came out and everyone tried to forget the Storm altogether. We actually had more issues with the 1994 800's than the '93 750's, but I have seen examples of both years with lots of trouble-free miles - you just never know. I'm talking about stock machines however - any mods with those things and all bets are off.
What I heard was the Storm mill was initially developed as a 1000cc motor, but Polaris backed off (likely on the advice of thier lawyers) as they didn't want to start a "displacement war". They were afraid of drawing bad press and lawsuits with monster-motored sleds. Subsequently the Storm motor was downsized with less than favourable results. Not saying any of this is true but that's the story I heard anyways.
