Full Version: 93 Indy Storm

Hey guys I'm going to be getting a 93 or a 94 storm from my g/fs brothers. Don't know a hole lot about this sled. When I saw it back in the summer it looked to be in good shape, only looked at it for a about 2mins and I want to say it has 3,000miles on it. Anyways I thought I've read some wheres before that the 750cc engines were in the 93s and had, had alot of problems. And the 94s and up had 800cc Is this true and what should I look for on this model since I've never rode/owned one. Thanks for any tips or advice would be great. Thanks

Avoid 1993's.

Probably Polaris most under acheiving sled in stock form. With a lot of work they could run much better. One thing I remember hearing, the stock pipes were developed for 800cc and Poo cut back to 750cc on the motor for ?? reasons, and that didn't help the motors performance? Maybe someone else will chime in on that.

and the '94's. Polaris finally got the Storm sorted out around 1996, the '98's were the pinnacle, but the next year the XCR800 came out and everyone tried to forget the Storm altogether. I'm talking about stock machines however - any mods with those things and all bets are off.

What I heard was the Storm mill was initially developed as a 1000cc motor, but Polaris backed off (likely on the advice of thier lawyers) as they didn't want to start a "displacement war". They were afraid of drawing bad press and lawsuits with monster-motored sleds. Subsequently the Storm motor was downsized with less than favourable results. Not saying any of this is true but that's the story I heard anyways.

Pete, our "hearing" is similar. Either of us could be right, or anywhere in between dunno.gif

I am currentlly riding a 94 Storm. These sleds are not known for drag racing, they are much better suited for radar runs or lake runs. The can easily reach speeds over 110 mph on long stetches. The xc-100 rear suspension only has 8" of travel, like riding a 2x4 compared to newer suspensions. The 800 engine has been very dependable. The biggest problem with this sled is getting it to hook up, likes to leave a trench when you hit the gas. The 800 engine has a reported 138.6hp when tested at the snowgoer shootout. m2c.gif

Ahhh yes, the ever active snowmobile rumour mill constantly churns out stories like these. You know how it goes - if you haven't heard a good rumour lately, then start one! yelrotflmao.gif

I put 8000 miles on one of these stock (93 750). The motor was fine, it was the suspension that was a pain. Bolts were always coming loose. Everytime I rode it I would have to check the suspension to make sure all the bolts were tight.
