I would just like to give you all a heads up on the Highland Lake Snowmobile, Outdoor and Recreation Club event coming up March 15th 2008. The club as well as Ski Sawmill together, with several sponsors is putting on its 3rd annual King of the Hill, hill climb. This is a family fun event with excellent entertainment, good food and great company! You can bring your entire family and they can ski while they watch you race! There will be a couple of revisions to this link to follow but would like to get this out to you sooner than later. Be sure to check back to this thread to see any updates. If you have any questions I will get back to you as timely as possible. Thank you
Flake

is this a professional event or just a club get together so everyone can have some fun?? possible for stock machines to make the climb or do sleds need to be modded?

If you have a registration sticker on your sled and a working tether you are good to enter any class. If you do not have a registered sled (ie: race sled) than you will need to run in the open/mod class. It is a fun day with 95% of the 150+ sleds coming right off of the trail and running up the mountain. Our club is putting this event on as a FAMILY fun event and we would like to stress Family! Bring everybody along to ski and watch the event. Ski SawMill has a huge base of snow right now that won't be going anywhere till after the hillclimb so I wouldn't worry about conditions for the hillclimb or your family skiing. Check out the links above and you can also find out about the skiing and tubing at www.skisawmill.com. Let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks, Flake

iis my stock 800 going to be able to compete.......im not far away so ill be there

Plenty of competition in the stock classes. Keep in mind that this is basically a side by side drag race up a ski slope. The degree of difficulty is not on the same level as a real hillclimb like, say, Jackson Hole - no ruts or grooves to navigate. That being said, there is some skill required to make it up the hill at full throttle due to moguls and such. Most riders do nothing more than wheelie across the tops of the mounds and moguls - some catch air - nothing major - groomer keeps track fairly smooth. See our website as linked above and look at some of the pics posted there. I have seen a few sleds wheelieing vertical but we have yet to have one go over backwards due to the steepness. It is a blast! See you there!

is this event on man made snow or do we have to stayed glued to the webcams and weather channel for the demise of this event also?

There will be snow. It is man made snow. Slope is open for skiing all winter and then just that particular slope is closed to skiing and then groomed up for the race. Base will likely be in feet not inches. That is the way it has been for past events.

Last year some of the NY state outlaws started showing up and took some of the fun out of it!!! I don't welcome cheeters and I hope the event organizers will make every attempt to keep it as fair as possible. When you don't run a fair event it discourages people from returning the following year. This is a great event.

So what you are saying is, if a sled doesn't have a current registration sticker on it, you will make it run in the mod/open class????

NY state outlaws???? What Pa riders don't cheat? Come on stretch we don't need to point fingers. If your sled can not be state registered or trail ridden than you do not qualify to enter the stock class. No headlights, 2 gallon gas tank, etc. you go to open mod. We will have 4 guys at pit entrance doing tech before you register. This is a Family fun event sponsered by HLSORC not a sanctioned event. Hell, they even cheat in NASCAR so what are you going to do? I do care but I'm still going to run and not discourage people from coming to our event. Thanks for pointing that out.

stretch800 you make it sound that you dont want no out of staters there at the race,i dont know what to say to that, but i will keep my mouth shut. i raced down there last year and had a great time, one of the best races around. i know i will be back this year just because it is a well organized race and a lot of fun. P.S. i trail ride my sled all winter long, if you want to go for ride just get a hold of me!
SnowFlake77
That is one bad ass paint job! I remember seeing that sled last year. Are you going to be running the same sled and did you have a buddy down 2 years ago with some custom paint schemes? Thanks for the post and your continued support/interest.

so if my stock snowmobiles arent registered i have to run in the mod class...and if this is the case as long as i have a paper showing i had just registered it that would be ok,also how about insurance

Pa requires a registered sled to carry insurance driven anywhere in Pa except for the owners private property. If it is registered than it will be able to run in the stock class. This is a back yard brawl and we intend to keep it as fair as possible. If we think it is a mod sled it will run with the mod sleds. Thanks and sorry it took so long to get back.
SnowFlake77
Heading to quebec today through the 24th. Will answer any questions then.

I was reading the PA DMV laws about snowmobiles and it says as long as my sled is registered in another state then I don't have to register it here in PA. Both of my sleds are registered in MI and I'm in the military so I don't wanna pay the price registering in another state if I don't have to. Will you take my MI registration and sticker as proof of registration and are you gonna want to see insurance papers at the event?

As Snowflake is on his way to Quebec with the gang I'll step in during his departure: As the hill climb is on private property; I believe the club will accept your MI state registration without the need to register in PA.

It will be interesting to see how your modified F6 that won last year does in the 800 cc class or open mod class if it is set up with nitro.
justinhul
Wont have to worry about Nitro this year... But Deff coming back with an 85mm bore this year... you know what they say go big or go home right... Took all summer to get a piece together and am still testing with it now just to have it ready for the upcoming event. Then again I wouldnt worry to much about me, the "NY Outlaws" that are coming down have alot more time and $$ into there sleds then I do!! Just remember though its all in fun grinning-smiley-023.gif
spencerpaving
" those damn new york outlaws" !!!!!!!!!
UR2SLO
ILL BE THERE WITH A LIL SOMETHING WITH FOUR DIGITS AND 270HP. DON’T WORRY ITS SLOW……..IM FROM NY IT CANT BE FAST
Stretch800
All I am saying is NY state runs alot of what is known as "outlaw" races. This mean you run what you brung. No cc classes, no restrictions. I know this is not a sanctioned event but that doesn't mean you hypothetically let a F6 with a F8 big bore kit run in the 600cc class or you let any sled with nitrous run in stock classes. Yes, everyone cheats to some extent or another and I can see allowing "stock cc" sleds with bolt on performance upgrades that don't change the bore and stroke of the oem specs run in their stock class accordingly but, there needs to be a simple tech line drawn for all of the big motor kits that are running out their with larger displacements. Hey, I agree if that's the way it's going to be, then let it be it's only for fun and I'll still be there to have fun but, it's not fair for the average back yard guy like you say it's intended for. If it makes you feel good that you can beat up on say for example all 600cc or 125 hp machines with a 700cc+ or 140+ hp machine that you say is a 600 I gues that makes you king of the mountain.
justinhul
This is where alot of people get upset, you spend your money to go fast! He who spends the most goes the fastest! I came down last year with my sled that had alot more time and effort then most peoples sleds should ever have into them to get it to the point it was at last year. The best part is I could still trail ride it, it was registered insured everything so I brought it down to play last year and all that i have heard since last year is a few people whine about how people were cheating?!
I blew that motor SKY HIGH at the end of last season and i would give my left nut to have that motor back just so I could bring it back down again... People want to cry because someone was faster then stay home, even with that motor i still got beat by other 600's that ran up here, I didnt care its just a sled its just racing there is no need to complain about it suck it up and move on. You PA boys want to see some fast sleds bring your sleds up to Toggenburg Ski Center for the HillClimb the next day after Sawmill on Sunday the 16th of March, you may get a chance to see some of the fastest sleds in the NorthEast. Im not trying to pick a fight with anyone Im just sick after a year has gone by people still complain... If anyone has an issue with me please come see me before the race, you can look at anything you want say whatever you want and PLEASE someone bring a set of scissor calipers and a regular set and Bore & Stroke me before the race just so this doesnt happen again!!! As much as these races are suppost to be for fun, Im not coming down to lose lol I do, I do still not a big deal though!

toggenburg is having one this sunday lets go out and play!!!!!!!! no snow to ride trails might as well have a good time anyway!!!!
Stretch800
Justin, I disagree with your statement that he who spends the most goes the fastest. I know and have heard some people who have spent alot of money on their sleds and don't have shit to show. The truth is he who spends the most time wrenching and testing is the fastest. Money doesn't buy you jack if you don't know what to do with it, not even pride!!!!!

By the way, why would anyone that is looking for a fair race in any form even think about going to toggenburg? That is one of the primo examples of an Outlaw race, (run what you brung, including nitrous) Just look at your own advertisement posting under the PA or NY forums.
justinhul
The Nitrous part I wont dissagree on at all Im 100% against N2o in a mod class! I believe it should be in its owns class and I have spoken my mind on that to Jerry and you may see a little something different being posted for the last race of the year, deff keep your eyes open on that one because it may interest you alot! Other then the Nitrous at Togg its a pretty fair race no one sled has ever ran away with it its always some of the best competition you see for hillclimbs.
I will also agree in the correction of my statement, but in return $$ sure does help especially when it comes time to your research and testing on a sled...
AC man
Hey Justin. I'll be watchin that F-6 this year! You let the cat "no pun intended" out of the bag. With your description of 800bb!!! lol
Hope to see you all there! I'll be back with the red patriot. Off the trail to the track!

I am interested in coming down and bringing my sled??? What's competitive in the 500cc class??? I have a 440snopro that has the pump heads, full cooling system, and is PA registered and insured. Would I be able to race in the 500cc and 600cc classes???

I trail ride the canyon a lot, and would like to come out and join the fun and support the local club.

you can race any class with that particular sled.you just cant have a 600 and race in the 440/500 class.you can always go up to the next class.

Sounds like a good time.. any good food to eat???

Thats one thing this event does not miss a beat on is the good food! All together its a fun time to be had by all...

Anyone run a Trail Converted 440 down there? I know it would be fun to run the hill, but I don't want to get embarrassed.

Looks good for Friday... Put that F5 in the 500cc class against me!
SnowFlake77
A ZL 500 took first two years ago and 2nd last year. It is the drivers daughter's sled with a studded up track out of a ZR900. You got to get out of the hole. He proved it with that sled.

It sounds like there is a pretty good buzz in the air about this event. New York is representing well and I see that a Quebecer is due in for the event. Should be a great event with over 150 sleds depending on weather.

Justin, I want to hook up with you the day of the race and get some info on the Tog hillclimb.

Thanks

Hey shortgodoper, When you can keep up then we will worry about lining em up. I think I smell a race on Friday. Looks like I'm picking up the ZRT 600 on Sunday. See ya buy

There is no replacement for displacement... you got me there. You want me to bring some road sodas and buddy you along to pick it up?

That's a big 10-4 on the road soda!

The club has now decided to add a 700 and under mod class. The class breakdown will be as follows: (STOCK includes studded and unstudded) stock 500 and under, 600, 700, 800, 900 and up) 700 and under mod and the big dog- Open/Mod. Track is looking great with lots of snow. I will update you on conditions as we get closer to race day.
If you have any questions, just shoot me a line.
Thanks, Flake

What is the format.. I understand bracket racing.. Do you run the 500 class first until complete, or run prelims for all classes, then back to 500 class for semi's and so on???

Stretch800
The usually try to go thru a full round in each cc class before coming back. Sometimes it gets jumped around depending on how many sleds per class but, from past experience they havn't run thru an entire class at once before going to the next class. Usually plenty of time in between rounds. Just a great day of fun all around. The event organizers do a fine job!!!!!! Thumbs up to Highland Lake Recreation club, Ski Sawmill, Ye Olde Cycle Barn and other event sponsors and volunteers who make this event possible.

I was thinking about it.
SnowFlake77
Just posted this in NY so I figured you all should have it to.

Just like last year, trail sled/registered/as many pipes as you can fit in her= stock.
Race sled/no headlights/1 gallon gas tank/no registration/bored/nitrous/etc.=mod
If you have a modded/bored motor don't be an asshole and run an 800 with a 700 head on it in the 700 class.
When you arrive you will bring your sled into the pit area where it will go through a visual "classification" inspection. When inspected you will be given a card to take to registration.
If we had a volunteer that could bore and stroke the top finishers we would but we have not come accross that individual yet. We will do our best at putting on an event for you that is now becoming a dying breed. Due to insurance and lack of volunteers events like these are hard to find don't you agree? We would like to keep it as simple as possible and still provide you with an exciting day of racing.
We ask for your honesty when it comes to putting your sleds in the correct classes. There will always be small minded individuals out there that will try and take advantage of the current situation, look at Nascar. The difference here is that if you need $50 bucks in prize money that bad than you should probably just find something else to do.
If i can clear anything else up for you guys and gals please drop me a line. If not, than we look forward to seeing you on race day.
Thanks, Flake

Is there any snow left anywhere near Ski Sawmill? I'm looking for a place to ride possibly sometime this week, other than making the trip to Tug Hill.

Anybody here know how this will pan out if the forecast holds.
Unfortunatly they are calling for 40's and rain rain rain.
That sure does suck for everyone.
