Snow Dawg
When we were riding in Shrewsbury this past Sunday we meet a couple of ATV's on VAST 4 & 7. It didn't look like they were going to be enjoying it though. There were two State Police sleds right behind them. Looked like they were getting an escort off from the trails. Spoke to some other sledders later and they said the ATV's were parked at the end of the CCC road waiting for someone to come with a trailer to pick them up. The cops gave them tickets for being on the snowmobile trails. cop.gif

I took mine out for a short ride on MY trail, and my neighbors land down to a class 4 that wasnt a trail,. but that was all legal where I am. The snow was so harpacked it didnt make a difference anyway. Most folks dont realize that class 3and 4 roads can be travelled on by cars or atvs (registered ones) any time of year, providing your town allows it in their bylaws, as mine does. . Most of the time, the snow is too deep to consider this, but this year, Ive seen many tracks on some road trails. Private property is a whole nother story, you dont want to be on a vast trail with an ATV without permission, but I know many landowners who do access their properties by ATV year round. I dont think the town that this story is coming from allows ATV's to operate on the town roads, so these boys will be getting ticketed.

I groomed Trail 105 last Saturday night. I made it to my destination and turned around to double back to Derby. On my way back I noticed that the white carpet I was laying out had been destroyed by two or three fourwheelers. They never gave it a chance. I support ATV's in every way possible, but something like this IRRITATES ME! STAY OFF THE TRAILS WITH ATV'S!
one ton fun
The Vasa and Vast head honcho's need to go riding in Canada to see how they are set up. Happiness for both sports.

Ya you are right. The good part is that we are trying to get some organized trails to connect Newport Center and IP through Derby. We will have to see how it will work.

Thats bad when that happens,..If you were on the 105 trail, ATV's are not allowed even in summer, and I doubt that its a class 3 or 4 road. Obviously these guys didnt give a damn, and thierin lies the problem. Ive heard soon that if you own an ATV in Vermont, you will be required to register it AND join a club, and this would be good as it will educate the public and maybe prevent this from happening. Since our club opened up, we have had an explosion of new trails from landowners happy to allow club members ride on thier land, and it has cut way back on problems,..so Im all for it.

I too ride both a snowmobile and ATV. And during the winter I stay OFF of the VAST trails. I know this is a winter where you could ride the VAST snowmobile trials but DON'T DO IT! I figure the guys who got caught didn't care but it sure gives the sport a bad name. Anyone riding an ATV in Vermont should join a club and VASA. More new trails are opening up all the time. Just my $.02 worth. YMMV

o totally agree they must stay on there own trail system as the 4 and 3 wheelers really tear up the snow i know first hand as part of the trail's i use to get to work in woodford from my in house pownal there are trail's that get used by both and when the snow is loose enough they tear it up and yes i ride atv's also i am not complaining just stating what i know and they are trying to make it so there is mandatory insurance for atv's also and i totally support the vasa system
