My 73 year old Dad rides a 2005 Summit, and in the past 3000 miles, he has managed to go through three engines. The first engine was due to running it out of oil when it was new - It was set up from the factory to use a full tank of oil to about 3/4 of a tank of fuel. The second engine had the crank bearings go out, and the latest siezed the PTO cylinder and possibly the crank. What kind of luck are others having with this sled? He had his hips replaced last year, and he only trail rides the sled, so it is not being run very hard

Please let me know what your experiences have been

Thanks

I blew the engine my 2006 1000 summit 151 highmark after only 500 miles, needless to say I was not happy, it cost 2200.00 bucks.
The only thing I can figure is I had some old gas in it, and was running at low altitude 800 ft.
I would make sure your riding over 5000 ft with this sled even though it has sdi it says in manual you need some engine modification below 2000 ft

05 summits run lean in the mids so rideing them in the mids on the trail for long times could lean it out. Seem to run rich on the bottom and top and lean in the mids, and they heat up alot in low snow or ice type snow to the point of the over heat light comming on alot, Is the light comming on ? I have to pack the top side of the tunnel with snow before we trail to the goods if its ice or hard hard pack snow on the trail or i'm over heating. The grade and MXZ are made for this summits are made to get rid of as much as it can for rideing the deep pow so those are some things to think about anyhow. I run a 05 summit 600 144 and it has run strong over the last 1300 miles, first 500 it was stock the rest its been slightly modded and really woke it up. Ride with two other 05 both 800 144 and have been prob free till this point, ones at 900 miles the other 1800 miles both are stock. 800 heat up just as bad in low snow and tend to see higher clutch temps then the 600 so might even run hotter then the 600. Take a look at you carb boots make sure they are good.

Just got this pig back from the dealer - they put in a new short block - 2200 bucks later. Rode it last weekend and in 30 miles, it used 2.2 galloons of gas and 80!!! ounces of oil. Had this problem when it was new, and bent the arm on the oil pump to cut the oil uasge back. Checked with the dealer, and he told us that he found the bent arm and replaced it. Running Amzoil in it. The dealer is telling us to try a new oil pump - anyone delt with this?
