Am thinking about buying a Turbo FST and am wondering if anyone has gotten alot of miles on their sled. Tired of "wearing out" my 2 stroke motor after 8,000 miles and blowing coin on injector oil. Will the engine last for the long haul? THANKS!

I have close to 7,000 on mine. Runs great.

I know a guy with an 06 FST Classic he has about 5000 miles on it. Just had his first problem - LHS drive axle bearing failed - other than that the machine seems to run great.

I forget what his name is, but theres a guy over on Polarisfiles who had an '06 FST that had over 10,000 miles on it and he recently traded it for another FST. He claims he didnt have any problems with the sled.
I dont think I would worry too much about it. Polaris seems to have fixed all of the problems with the last round of updates.
Thats the real downside to a 4-stroke though. If you grenade the motor, its gets real expensive. Blow up a 2-stroke twin and its about $1,000-$1,500 to rebuild it. Blow up a 4-stroke and you are looking at $1,500 PER CYLINDER for a rebuild.
Thats the only thing about owning a 4-stroke that concerns me.

Thanks for all the input thus far. Rebuilding a 2 stroke can get pricey as I'm learning first hand on my 04 Switch 700. PTO side crank bearing let go at 8080 miles. Cost is WAY in excess of $2000.00 at Polaris dealer for complete rebuild including new pistons and crank rebuild @ factory. New crank alone is about $900.00, rebuild is about $500. less but taking too much time. Used Polaris synthetic entire time at great expense! Probably should have run the cheap stuff and cleaned my exhaust valves more frequently. Sled was overly maintained and never thrashed. Kinda disapointed with motor as I'm used to getting at least 10,000 trouble free miles out of my past 2 stroke polaris motors. Don't trust 'em any more.

I have a friend that put 24000 trouble free miles on a 700 Polaris then decided to pull it apart. I have put 23000miles on a Skidoo 670(ate 3 pistons in that time) and then 10000miles on my SDI losing 1 piston in that time. I would hope that these 4stroke engines if maintained properly should last in excess of 50000miles.
Here is my buddy's when it turned 20000 back in 2005...

You're putting on 1000 miles per season, and you're worried about the bearings going at 8000 miles? That doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Polaris' 2-strokers are at least as dependable as they've always been, with the possible exception of motors like the Liberty 800 which had crank issues. Even those were usually good for 6-8000 miles before having any issues.
Just trade up every 5 years or so and you should avoid any issues with wahtever 2 stroke you might have.

Usually I put on around 3,000 miles per season with the exception of the past 2 which were lacking snow in our area. Sled in question had 6,500 after 1st two seasons. Caught me by surprise when it failed, as I've always experienced flawless performance and high miles with past Polaris motors. I try to buy a new sled every couple of seasons. Recently with the bad snow years and lots of used sleds on the local market, I've had a hard time selling or trading anything with miles on it. Would be awesome to get 50,000 miles!

I rode my 06 FST Classic 5200 miles and then sold it to a guy in Proctor MN. Motor should run for many more miles. The Engine itself never had an issue. The parts around the motor are what worried me. But I sold it for $3500 so he got a heck of a deal and could very well never have an issue. Sled was solid when I sold it.

Pete just bought an 08 FST lx. Only had about 200miles on it. Somethin let loose in the gearcase. Started to make a griding noise once you engaged the clutch. Will post when the dealer checks it out. Glad its got that 3year warranty !!!

Yes it probably was! Thanks for the help! Ended up over to Sunapee w/150+ miles for the day. Readjusted oil pump on Sunday morning (with help from a mirror to see marks) but seems too oil rich now. Probably need to set marks at point where carb slides are just beginning to open per suggestions in other forums. Still think ing seriosly about an FST. THANKS AGAIN!

Glad you made it through the day ok,oil rich is better than lean on a new motor.
Damn,If my sled was facing the other way you'd have seen the HCS sticker on it.
