So who has gone on a pheasant hunt out west somewhere? A couple guys and I are looking to take our dogs and head west this upcoming season. I have heard nothing but good things about the Dakotas, and Iowa I want to say. I am looking to go to South Dakota for the most part but am open to anywhere basically. Anyone have any places they have been to and have had good success getting some birds? I have been surfing around on the internet the past couple days looking for places to go, and have been requesting information from places to send to me. Just seeing if anyone on here has done a hunt like this before and where about they went. I have hunted game farm birds A LOT, but I think it is time for me and my dog to go after some wild birds and test our skills.

Thanks, 99indy500

I went out to Chamberlain SD last fall. This was my first trip out there. We tried the conventional upland hunting and didn't have much luck. We were told by almost everyone out that that in order to get your birds you have to road hunt or go to a private farm and pay anywhere from 90-250 a day per gun. We hunted the walk-in areas and the food plot areas with little luck. It was a lot of running and burs on the 5 dogs for a few birds. I think that group that I went out with this year is going back to their normal spot for opening week of pheasant season (somewhere in Iowa).

Northeast South Dakota=the pheasant capital of the united states. Come to Aberdeen, SD and you will limit out everyday unless you don't know how to shoot. Lots of public land and alot of farmers will let you hunt if you ask permission.

i live in northwest iowa, bordering south dakota, awesome pheasant hunting here and better non resident fees than south dakota

Try Pelee Island, Canada.... Its out in the middle of Lake Erie. They are pen raised birds, but they wise up REAL quick.

Head a bit farther north to North Dakota and you'll find all the birds and open land you can want. Please come help out I usually hit 2 a day if I spend any time at all on the back roads. Lots of CRP, Low Dry Slew areas, Tree Lines, Soybean and Corn Stubble. We've been kinda off the map up until the last few years but with the mild winters and large amounts of corn and soybeans giving them good cover and food our populations have soared. My wifes uncle came out from Southern MN with his 2 dogs for a weekend instead of his usual hunting in IA and limited out by noon every day. We also had a couple hunters from WI that had excellent luck every day not sure on exact numbers didn't get a chance to visit with them before they left. I live in LaMoure County, ND just north of Lamoure. If anyone is interested in hunting this area send me a PM or email and I can help you out with lodging, restaurants, and your all more then welcome to hunt any land we farm that we own and some of what we rent isn't posted also.
