It is in fact a '94.
Those are just screw on metal covers on the rear wheels.

The '96's have the Xtra-12 rear suspension, the one pictured is not a Xtra-12.
RatRod
ill get the VIN# today, then we will se for sure

1994 XLT- http://polarisman.com/site/DisplayModel.cf...T&Year=1994

1994 XLT SP- http://polarisman.com/site/DisplayModel.cf...P&Year=1994

1996 XLT- http://polarisman.com/site/DisplayModel.cf...T&Year=1996

1996 XLT SP- http://polarisman.com/site/DisplayModel.cf...P&Year=1996

BOTH of the '96 XLT's have the Xtra-12 suspension.
the Xtra-10 was not used in a XLT until 1997.

Definitely a '94. Good 580 XLT mill in that one. 93's look very similiar, but had a separate gas tank w/cover rather than the one-piece seat/tank combo. Cool sled, I loved mine.

1994.
RatRod
I checked the numbers, its a 1994 580

Yes the SP's had xtra-12 and fox all around, and the standard model has the xtra-10
