Would suggest a head gasket leak as the culprit. Allowing combustion gas into the cooling system and over flowing it.

YEA MAN SOUNDS LIKE HEAD HEAD GASKET.

Head gasket, my XLT did the same thing, it ran fine right after I changed the head gasket!

There is a one way check valve the runs in the line coming from the front of the engine. It is a $5 part. try that before doing the head gasket.
Had the same problem on my '93 XLT and that took care of it.

I had that problem and tried everything until I raised the front end of the sled and then bled the system. Was airlocked.... maybe you tried it already, but that solved my problem.....

I've got a 98 XLT Limited. Its got almost 8000 miles on it. I was riding last week and noticed the right running board had antifreeze all over it. I looked and it was overflowing the coolant overflow tank. This sleds never done anything like this before. I've had it since it had 268 miles on it and its never had cooling issues. I can see that the waterpump belt is still intact. The temp light never came on or anything. Any ideas? I was thinking headgasket but was hoping it wasnt that. Thanks

GearHd6, see my post above. Try changing that check valve first.

Could you give me a little better idea where that check valve is? My engine doesnt have the radiator cap right on the middle of the cylinder head. I've got the remote type cap with the 2 rubber lines going to it. Thanks

Are you talking about #29 in this picture?
