I have a 2005 550 Classic, that has some type of electrical problem. After riding for about an hour I can't shut the machine either by the kill switch, or by the key, I also loose reverse. I have to flood the engine by engaging the choke to shut off. The engine will also backfire at times when trying to start.
I have checked all the connections to ensure that they are tight; all the dealers have a 3 week waiting list to get in. I am the original owner, and only have 150 miles. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could check that could be the answer?

Let the fun begin!!! No just kidding, But I would check the ground(s) on the sled, because it sounds like you are not getting power to some if not most of your accesories. Possibly, a wire that is frayed and maybe rubbing on the bulkhead? Its hard to tell because there arer really no wiring guides online that I can see the schematics on the wiring diagram. Troubleshoot...Are there any loose wires? Are there any frayed wires? All wires where attached, are they tight and not moving around? I know its simple and maybe not the answer you want to hear, but go through all the steps!
