Hey my buddy's girlfriend is a paramedic in Walkerton, he just called to see if I was OK because her partner attended a fatal snowmobile crash just outside of Chesley this afternoon. If this is true my condolences go out to this persons family! When I find out more details I will post. I am told he hit a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene!

WTF is wrong with you!! You have no apparent idea of the circumstances of the accident and even if they were going to fast etc..I WOULD NEVER PUT A STUPID INSENSITIVE comment likje this up when a person has lost their life!! YOU OWE a huge apology on this thread!!

THERE is not one person that i have ever ridden with in the past 35+ years that I have been involved in sledding, that have not exceeded the 50K trail speed limit. SO according to you anyone over this is a dumbass and deserves to die! Pathetic, insensitive and no time for someoone lijke you!

I know a guy who was killed yesterday on a sled, but so far I have not heard many details. The accident I know about involved 2 sleds, one guy died and the other was hurt bad. They were riding together, so I am not sure what happened.
They would have been on a pair of XP gades.
We might he talking about the same fatality...not sure.

Just got off the phone with some more details, the second sledder was NOT injured, I guess the story got blown out of control as usual.
Some sledders were waiting for the last guy to catch up, so backtracked and found the guy in the tree...so sad.
Happened about 4 pm on saturday from what I have been told.

Snowmobile crash near Dornoch
Written by Jody Johnson

One man is dead after a snowmobile crash near Dornoch.

Grey County OPP is investigating the snowmobile crash that claimed the life of 37 year old David William Hart of Thorndale yesterday.

The snowmobile left a marked trail at about 4 PM and hit a tree, killing Hart.

The OPP used their force snow machines to transport expert investigators to the scene which was located approximately 1 km east of Concession 4.

The crash occurred on Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club's Trail 240, which is commonly known as the Dornoch - Chesley trail.

Police do not suspect alcohol to be factor.

The OFSC has deemed this trail to be open but with limited access.

The collision occurred around open water which police believe contributed to the operator going off the trail.

Sorry I didnt post the info earlier had to work all day. I know this trail very well it is one of my favorite little runs usually a pretty quiet trail. Still about 2 or 3 of these waterholes I have saw over the last couple of days so everybody ride carefull trails are listed as limited in the area and they arent kidding. Once again my condolences got out to this gentelmans family.

I was just tolking to a friend who was visiting with one of the other riders who was there when it happened.
I guess it happened in a swampy area where a curdouroy (sp) road was used to cross the swamp and was broke up a bit. Everybody had to take their turn to negotiate the crossing. For some fluke reason, Dave got it out of control and hit a tree. The other riders said he wouldn't have been going over 20 mph when it happened.
Just a freaking disasterous fluke.
So neither speed or alcohol were a factor, if that is any consolation.
His family did not need this as they have been dealing with some other issues at this time...terrible.

Team HP- maybe it's time to brush up on your English literacy level before you call others dumb.

I have my doubts that the fellow was going less than 20 mph though (although of course none of us know). Hard to imagine such a low speed causing a fatal accident, but it is possible.

Condolences to the family.

My condolences to the family.

As for TeamHP....... others have pretty much covered any shred of sentiment I have for you or your tactless, immature, moronic, thoughtless and completely worthless comment. Hope you have Karma insurance......

My condolences to the family of our fellow rider. Unfortuneately accidents do happen all too seldom in our sport. All we all can do is be as carefull as we can, & respect others on the trails & in life. Mistakes can be made at 5mph as well as 50. This goes with age as all of us know as well. I send out my prayers to the family. God Bless.

very possible indeed , lost a friend a couple years ago ,doing 20 mph max poss less , he was not alone we all know how fast he was going , it was a freak accident he got thrown hit a fence post ...same as hitting a tree ... and killed instantly , slowed all of us down for quite a while we were over cautious , because it proved one thing .....YOU CAN GET HURT OR KILLED AT ANY SPEED ....

so you guys that think you are experienced good riders , may be good riders with quick reflexes so you think it's ok to take wide corners and nothing has ever happened .....you may not be that good ..just lucky so far , and you probably have no idea of the people you have run off the trail since you never look back ...... i used to ride a bit more wild than i do now but all it takes is seeing the guy coming through the corner with his little guy (or girl) sitting in front of him and i realize .. slow down in the twisties ,, let her rip a bit in the opens and the lakes etc.

if you get killed riding full out ...no regrets ..your dead
if you live and kill the other guy you have a long time to think about it ....not the pro sno cross rider story to tell at work monday morning , is it ??

ok rant over sorry but see a few dead guys on the trails over the years and once almost ending up there myself and these stories set you off on a rant ..it,s ok to be the guy that says hey lets slow down a bit .... it's cool to go home to your family .
