Well just got back from Kearney,Ontario from a 3 day trip. A group of us called the Niagara County Sno-. rent a house on Fisher lake for two months. Total trip for the 3 days 370 miles. There's a awful lot of snow and new snow that fell while we were there. We rode toward Dwight on Tuesday with about 10'' of new snow on the trails that weren't groomed on that day. Got to Dwight to have lunch and nothing was open per a local gal. Turned around and headed back to camp for lunch. Trails we rode down and back were D-D101B Lots of snow!! After lunch we headed out for another venture on The Almaguin trails. Wow is the word, freshly groomed and smooth as silk! Rode 302-303-D. Wednesday we headed out toward Parry sound via the Seguin and just past Sprucedale about 4 miles the trail wasn't groomed. We decided to go to Port Sydney for lunch via D103B! Awesome trail right into the port. Signage for gas was alittle confusing but we managed. Headed back the same way but cut off on some of the 80 series trails which were in great shape as well! Friday we headed down to Dorset D-D101B. Trails were in excellent shape. It snowed all day to and from Dorset. Not alot of sleds in town. Headed back to house by D101B-77-78-D. More traffic on the way back but trails still in great shape. Not bad for the first trip. Want to take time to thank all the volunteers for their work after the rain and mild spell they had a few weeks back. Snowing when we left at 8am and the temp was 16 degrees f! See ya in a week!!

Thanks for the report Highway! I was up there on the weekend before you and had received more than 30cm of new snow, so another 10 inches after that is amazing. Are you planning on going up this coming weekend (Feb 2)? Just a reminder that it is the Almaguin Cup at the Burk's Falls arena. Hope to see you there! buttrock.gif ylsuper.gif

Didn't make it to Parry Sound. Seguin half way down was ungroomed so we turned around! As far as the lakes i crossed the one our house is on. It had aleast 3 feet of snow on top of the ice. Made about ten passes with 4 sleds to pack down only a little slush in spots. Want to post pics but when i try to upload it says my pics are to big! Anybody have any ideas what to do? Thanks

Just got back from kearney now. Trails were good friday and sat morning but real rough sat afternoon. We ran most of the lakes besides Lake of bays. Most of the lakes have about a foot of powder and slush under, so you definably don't want to stop in some spots. I noticed edgewater was out of gas sunday. Kind of a piss off but oh well. If your ever looking for great food in the kearney area, wiskey jacks just off of sand lake is amazing.

I agree with your comments kev0, I just got in from Clear Lake. Great place for lunch, but bring an appetite as they serve big portions, but for a reasonable price. We headed to Sunridge yesterday and ran across the unopened sections of trails. Passable, but bumpy as Hell. Gas was $1.10 at Sunridge, and took the west side trails back through Burks Falls. The Segin was beat to Hell Saturday afternoon, but was fantastic on Friday. Ran across checkpoints on the D trail, which I don't mind, and I'm sure they were checking for permits mostly. We headed from Clear Lake on Friday to Baysville for lunch, went to the Pav (for the last time, if you know what I mean) and back the 102B to Kearney. Fantasic trails all day Friday and most of my 250 miles in the last two days.

I have to agree with you Kev, Whiskey Jack's food is awesome, and cheap too. They had a groomer down last week but had it running again today.

Yeah i was talking to a couple of the locals there and they said they got a brand new groomer and one guy hit a rock and bent the axle or something and they fixed it and then when grooming near hte lookout or something one of the wheels fell off and they had to do a change right on the trail in the middle of the night. I saw the new one out today though passing silver sands there. That whiskey jacks sure is busy now. It's gonna take business from edgewater.

It's a shame sand lake isnt froze over yet. It's almost feb and we can't do much racing yet.

Have you noticed the lack of food though? Alot of places are closing and leaving one or two places in town where you can't get a table for the life of you.

Bunch of people were out on Sand lake a week ago. They were thinking about staking it a couple times but i guess Jack just didn't feel it was ready yet. Were there many huts out yet? I've been in Whiskey Jack's twice now and each time there was nobody there but it was on like a Friday afternoon. The groomers from i guess have logged a lot of hours, and they have still managed to keep the trails awesome even with only one groomer running. You heading up this weekend for the Almaguin cup?

There are a few huts on sand near our place but not that many. Right infront of our place is very slushy because of the spring close by but honestly sand lake is pretty good besides alot of snow sitting on top of it. I won't be back to kearney for a while though. I got school and work so i have one last week off and I believe thats going to be a cochraine trip. Isn't it in burks falls? The trail from the camp of many colours going to burks was absolute garbage, hopefully it gets groomed and low traffic this week.

Well just got back from Parry Sound also, Rode the seguin first thing this morning and it was in mint shape. By late afternoon it was showing some wear. Over heard the over of the gas station in Sprucedale said they sold the most gas on sat. then they have in years. Everything around Huntsville was chewed but for the amount of traffic I'd say the trails arn't to bad...a few rocks. We ran some lakes like Kev said lots of slush under snow. I probably wouldnt stop for a leak either...Cold and snow would help things.

Ya the Almaguin cup is in Burk's Falls. There is a couple ways we can get to Burk's Falls from our place so we'll just pick the best one. I think most trails are groomed now and I think the groomer is running again

Hey boys , Just thought I would let you in on the ice conditions. Even though it was very cold last week in Muskoka ice conditions aren't very good. I checked a few spots on Muskoka two weeks ago and again last weekend, there was only an inch of new ice under all that powder. Don't be stoppping out there and if someone breaks down , don't park near them. Otherwise your good. We rode the Bay in Gravenhurst on Sat. afternoon because the trail from Bala hadn't been groomed yet since the thaw. Don't like the way the powder comes through the new XP running boards and covers the dash and gets in your face!!!! Best trail we found was the C trail south of Moon river to Bala. Six star trails in Mactier were good even on Sunday afternoon... Not bad for a club that seems to be a one man show.
