Full Version: XC600 crank rebuild

Big Lou
I have a 2005 XC600sp with 1400 miles on it. I thought I blew a piston on my last ride. Pulled the top end off and it appears I seized the left connecting rod bearing. The rod is very tight and will not rotate. I can do the top end rebuild but need help pressing the crankshaft and reassembling it. Any suggestions on who may be able to do this in the area for short money? Thanks all.

Ask Pete. I know he knows a place that can do it. Cant remember the name though.

Performance Cycle Machine in Lee NH just norht of the race track directly across from the nudist camp ground. He charges me $450 to do a full rebuild, balance and weld my two cylinder jet ski cranks.

I think a new Polaris crank is close to $900. It will be better than new when he is done with it.

Don't forget new crank seals, $25 each. I only trust OEM crank seals.

Might be worth looking on ebay for a motor with a good crank or just a used crank.

I am surprised that crank went so soon. Was there any sign of rust on any parts of the crank? Moisture is the kiss of death to a crank bearing. It only tankes one drop of dew sitting on a bearing for the summertime to make a nice little pit on the smooth surface which then overheats and shreds the races.

Aaron over at PCM in Lee use to work for Leo. If ya call r&l I believe Leo just refers you over to Aaron.

As freeride stated PCM is the place to go, I bring my machine work to him too. He does great work a his prices are fair.

I'll ride any sled that doesn't break down. Unfortunately those sleds only exist in fairy tales with unicorns and leprecons purple.png

I do not believe Polaris sells a rod kit or bearing seperate for the big end rod bearing.

Polaris has a rod kit #2201132 and there a aftermarket For $ 100.00
