is it possible to adjust the choke on the flatslides? on my 02 t-cat 1/2 choke barely lifts the choke plunger at all, and full choke only lifts it a little. in subzero temps i only had to choke it in the morning. after that i didn't need to choke at all. my boss has a 1000 pantera and his won't start at all even into the 20's. we have to put a hair dryer under the hood to warm the engine up. i'm thinking his isn't choking enough? anyone ever played with the choke?

Yes You can. Follow the cable to the carbs and you should be able to adjust it just like a throttle cable.
Hey Johnny Park
Same thing I was having my 99 zrt800 - It looks like it is barely moving, and Im not sure what to do about that. I dont have a service manual...

i was actually thinking of an adjustment on the carbs themselves. maybe a way to adjust the plunger? i was thinking the choke plunger was out of adjustment and sticking open slightly making my low end way too rich.

I had the same issue on my 99. The connection at the long cross rod that lifts all three plungers needs to be adjusted. The set screw that tightens the adjuster to the rod is not in the little grrove machined on the surface of the rod. After I loosened the screw and re-positioned it so the screw lined up with the machined slot, the plungers moved about a 1/4". I ran for years wondering the same thing until I discovered this over the summer. After trying it since the adjustment, it has helped to start the beast in 7 degree weather.

so the adjustment is actually where the choke cable pulls the rail up not at the actual plungers?

well i double checked everything and the rod and screws were in the right place and the cable adjustment was fine. i physically pushed down on every plunger, and they wouldn't go down anymore. yet still 1/2 choke didn't move the plungers up at all. so i decided for grins to pull the choke plungers out of the carbs and check them. well the clutch side plunger had small chunks of what appeared to be some sort of seed. cleaned it all out and bam, the plungers went down and 1/2 choke actually pulled the plungers up. i have no idea how something like this could happed, but glad i pulled it apart. i can't believe it actually ran with all stock carb settings in 40 degree weather on half choke. i guess i will see a huge improvement in mileage now.

It must be pretty easy for the newer triples for setting the choke. Is there anything on how to step by step set the older individual triple chokes? I changed out my choke cable from having some other issues with it and it seemed to fix it for a bit then it started back firing again. It's smoking pretty heavy at idle. I completly cleaned the carbs so I'm thinking the choke.
