My bro wants to get a new sled he just blew up his Phazer Mtn (Junk) he was VERY VERY disopointed with it, it had no power and it blew up at 500 miles...
He found an 06 RMK 900 for $4,300 but if i remeber corectly i remeber reading alot of bad about them?
Any info on these sleds would be awsome!!
Thanks

I got one and I love it but I did get alotr of problem that I had to work out and that sounds like a good price if there isnt to many miles and it isnt to beat.

Your brother will steal that 900 for that price. Vent it, clutch it, airbox, torque arms or different motor mounts cure the 900's. It will rip once setup properly, don't be afraid of it. My buddy has the '06 700(755) and likes it more and more especially after adding a couple vents to let the heat escape. Now he wants a can and different airbox and he'll be very happy. He likes the fuel economy once we get up in altitude a bit, compareable to my currently stock '08 600RMK carb equipped 144".

Don't know specifics about the 900, but I have an 06 700 (755cc) 151 track and it's really growing on me (same chassis as 900).
The standard of finish & general engineering on these machines is great - esp compared to my M6 Cat.
I've heard the venting can be an issue but had no issues my self.
The steering is a bit heavy & the cornering is a bit sloppy in deep snow but I think Powder Pro skis will help fix this.
The EFi is great dealing with altitude. I'm surprised how economical this sled is with both gas & oil.

Its a good sled just needs a few little things that were mentioned above. and make sure u have a 2.5 on the back cuz the 9s like gas!

The 06 900 RMKs a great sled if you do your own work. They need a few mods to wake them up and get them to quit eating belts. About $1500.00 to do it right.
They do have a few quirks though.
No question that they are heavy. If you are coming off a Phazer you will certainly notice the difference.
They are a hard steering sled. Aftermarket spindles and skis fix that.
Not a great trail sled. They have overheating issues. (Especially the 166) I need scratchers down almost all the time on the trail unless there is a few inches of fresh snow.
It's not a clean running engine. To me the fuel mapping is wrong. Tends to load up at lower RPM and it does vibrate.
Having said all that, my 06 is an awesome sled in the mountains. You won't get left behind because you couldn't make the last hill!

Yes that is a killer deal for the 900. I currently own the 06 700 (755) 151 Rmk. I have recluched, added vents, new SLP air intake and exhaust, torques stops and to alleviate the hard steering i added new Holtz spindles and new skis. I also junked the factory front and rear shocks and added revalved Walker Evans shocks to lighten up the sled. I have found with these additions that the turning radius is much smaller and less effort is required to turn my sled. With that being said, the 700 and 900 are basically the same chassis and both motors are the big blocks. There are alot of things that can be done to lighten that 900 up and add value in the form of performance. I have heard that vibration can be reduced by installing an aftermarket handlebar riser that incorporates a rubber damper of some sort but i am not positive that this will remove all of the vibration that radiates throught the handlebars. Reducing the overall vibration that radiates throughout the sleds chassis is another story. That 900 is one hell of a big block mountain climbing machine if you add performance parts and reduce weight here and there.

By the final post here you appear to imply that the vibration issue is more just feel in the handle bars vs. problematic to the system??? Is this really the reason to dampen or is it more so correlated to the engine shaking itself apart...and the rest of the sled for that matter?

i can tell you that this vibration that everyone wines about is in the eye of the beholder. i ride an05 switchback 900 and yes it vibrates but doesn't every sled? i personally do not think its that big a deal. try riding an r1 and then when your hands go numb you will see what i mean!

i have an 06 900 S/B and hardly notice the vibration of the engine.

I would say the 900 when set up right is a great sled.....I just got to test mine out and it ran great....Its mostly stock. But with a few vent kits this summer and an intake, lefty throttle, and a riser it should be ready to go!!! The vibration is a little more noticeable than other sleds but not to steer me away from it by any means. I love my 900
