So next year I want to volunteer in something that has to do with sledding... so I figured maybe trail patrol would be my best bet? How would I go about doing this, or is there anything else I can do?

Contact your local club, contact the district - re contact the local club, re contact the district - repeat until phone calls are returned, then stress that you would like to be trail patrol - contact OFSC - Contact local club again, contact district again find out when, where meetings are and attend- re contact district, recontact club say you would like to VOLUNTEER for FREE!

keep contacting until you are aloud to volunteer

are there any other things I can volunteer doing?

Contact an executive at your local club or the club you wish to volunteer for. Executive lists and phone number are usually found on the club website. Ask for the Trail patrol Coordinator (this is my position for my club), You will have to be trained by the Trail Patrol instructor for the district ( 3 hour course). I beleive most clubs do this in the fall, but they may be able to setup a special training session for you if they are in need of trail patrols. It is a VERY rewarding job, but it does come with it's downsides too. For the most part I really enjoy it, just being out there helping other sledders makes me happy.

How about go to North Bay club meetings

btw TP is not as simple as signing up and stopping sleds

Don't they do a background check for TP, I think that may leave Token out.

No way they do background checks, otherwise I'd never have gotten in!!!!

It would probably fall under community service work! thumbsup.png

It will help if you know others already signed up
pretty much a clique

or just put on a orange vest with the yellow stripes and check for sled permits on your own lol

100% Jay .............. it takes a certain demenor to do it, I know TVB and other club TP captains consider each person and asses there comitmnent towards the club and the user pay system, before they are accepted them into the program ........ you have to make it work. 80% ambassadors 20% enforcment and risk managment.

There is no background check for TP but there is for STOP. You do however have to take a short course and then you are valid for 3 years. You are not allowed to go out by yourself (in our area at least) and have to go with a another person who has done it before. Like nutter said 80% ambassador and 20% enforcement. Also if you sell permits on the trail you have to sigbn a confidentiality agreement.
My suggestion is to join your local club and see what is needed. Perhaps go out on trail patrol as an observer first and see if you like it, it isn't for everyone.
