Hi all,

new to the province here and am wondering where the best sledding is within a short drive of the Halifax airport. I am looking to get out for a run on Sunday. There is no snow here, but from the sounds of it there is some close by. Where would be a good loop to introduce me to NS trails? From what I've read here Sutherlands Lake, Dalhousie Mtn, etc all have snow. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I would recommend the Hants Sno Dusters Clubhouse in Falmouth:
Its only 25-30 mins fro Sackville. Trails are very well marked. Food and gas are available down there.

Then you can make it to the Ridge Runners zone.

or go to the Crossburn Zone:

I dont think there is quite enough snow right now in the Fall River-Beaverbank and Rawdon area yet.
There are 3 spots to unload in this trail system. When we get a bit more snow this will be your best bet.

As far as the Dalhousie Mountain area (nutby), Folly Lake and Sutherlands.

The nearest place woudl be to unload off the 311 Highway past North River where the sled trail crosses the road. I think its up past Sutherlands Road. I unloaded at a place called Jollytown Rd (about 5 mins from North River). The 311 is the highway from Truro to tatamagouche. From this trail system you can go to Kemptown, Earltown, Tatamagouche, Folly Lake and Sutherlands.

Another spot to unload would be in Debery. i have know idea exactly where but I know guys who do it. I sometimes unload 1 mile this side of Folly Lake where the sled trails crosses the highway #4. Old Wentworth Rd. Thsi is about 20 mins from Truro.

I hope this helps.

thanks! Not too familiar with the province yet, but I'll grab a map and trail map and should be all set.

Where is the best snow at now on the mainland?

The best snow on the Mainland is Nutby to Folly Lake to Sutherlands to Cumberland. All along that Ridge has greta snow conditions.

Trail Maps are very hard to find. Sans has a Provincial Map out that you can get by with. Some of the delaers have them.

Depending if you catch them or not, but you might not hear back from a call until next week, they'll be on their way to Pictou at some point for tonite's meeting.

Yes, I talked to Martha there and she said she woudl get back to me. She was in a meeting?

I wanted to find out about 3 day trail passes and the Provincial maps.

Most of the dealers dont even have the 3 day trail passes to offer.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the clubs supply the dealers with permits, so dealers should be after the clubs, telling them that people are wanting to buy their 3 day passes and they don't have any to sell them. Although they really shouldn't have to, clubs should keep them supplied, but if they run out and don't let the clubs know....

But like I say, I'm not 100% on that.
