I would like to ride somewhere south of Wausau/Mosinee for a change.
Does anyone know of a place I could park and ride from for the day around Wisconsin Rapids?
THANKS!
I work the trails in Wood County and the area you are asking about has some nice trails, but there are a lot of areas where the groomer "forgets to go". Expecially around the Auburndale area. If you want to ride south and west of Mosinee, I would recommend that you drop your sled at the parking lot of Fast Break Sports Bar south of 29 on 97. Then run over towards the Colby, Spencer, Riplinger trails. These are much nicer IMO. If your heart is set on riding in Wood County, I would head down towards Rapids and then head west from Nekoosa area to Babcock. Then head North to Pittsville. Then go up into the town of Richfield and take the trail towards Arpin. You can then run from Arpin to Vesper and back to Rudolph. That would be about a 100 mile run I think. 80 for sure. Nice bars to eat at in Pittsville. I like Horsin around Saloon. They are nice folks. Also there is a diner just across the street form there, if you don't wann do the bar scene. Riding real close to Rapids you are kinda limited, though. I say this because there is no way across the river without going up toward Rudolph. The Grand Rapids twp has very scenic trails but you are actually kinda riding in town a lot because this is a heavily residential township. Regardless, you can have a great time here.
