Can you put a medium sized windshield on a GT? I have an 08 GT with the big windshield. Do you have to use a different bracket?

No you do not. There are many choices of windshields from yamaha, or you can use the one of a Fx model.

Alot of the Yamaha windshields require the brackets to mount them. Go to a Yamaha accessories page and you will see. The short FX windshield will fit using the same four bolts as your stock windshield. I have a GT and thats what I use ( got lucky and bought one used on Ebay for $20)

Thanks Man.. I guess the wife likes the tall windshield now so I will leave it for now.. (it keeps her warmer)
