I haven't checked White Lake but it was open about a week ago, my guess is it needs more time and nobody was on it as of yesterday. Whitmore should be in the same boat.

Drove by White Lake and there are now tracks and shanty's all over. Doesn't mean it's safe but it should be close.

No tracks on Whitmore lake yet. If you want I can keep an eye open and let you know. I will be working on the lake I think the 9th or 10th of Feb (there is a 4 on 4 hockey game both days) so if you see the boyz in blue stop out and say HI I always like to see some Bad Azz sleds

The sled might be light but the guy on it isn't too svelte.
You gonna put any studs in that Kitty Kat so I can smack you up on the lake this year?

there is a dnr boat launch at whitmore on the northeast side. if you get off at the main exit for main st, in whitmore lake, you turn across the street from a gas station, and you'll see a marina/dairy queen on the corner , you then follow that around and it will lead you to the launch area where there is plenty of parking. they used to have a strip plowed across lake and used to race 10 wide, but i think the police put an end to that. i went by there today , no tracks as of yet. i bet there will be this weekend, though

kinda off topic, but there is going to be drag races on the black river in port huron. It is going to be an official event. there are 5 classes..trail 600 and below and 600 and above. kids, vintage, and unlimited modified.
anyone can enter. theres going to be quite a few fast sleds there. I have all the information for anyone interested.

We don’t enforce it but the DNR does. They look for the ones that are making the problems on the lake not the ones having fun. In the last 5 years or so it has slowed down due to the people that lives on the lake were getting mad at the 2,3am drags and the property vandalism. I can remember when there would be trucks and trailers lined up out on the lake, but you always have those few people that mess it up for the others. If you go out on the lake stay away from the E side of the lake (Rocky point) straight across from the boat launch, we see sleds go through every year there. If you get hungry there is a bar kitty corner from the marina called “The Tavern” they have pretty good food and the people are nice too.
Hope to see some of you out there this winter.

I was out on anchor bay till 2pm today. Saw all sorts of trucks parked on ice by dnr launch. I think it was a little early for that obviously but the bay is fine for sledding. I came in throught the marsh as i live out here and had no problems

those ice chunks look pretty thick? my folks live lakefront just south of Metro... sleds were racin up and down just the other night... I was there a week ago and it was open... a bit scary for me, but I know it's only 2-3' deep for 200 yds in front of their place.

Jan 26 2008, 04:24 PM
yep right at the ramp the ice is fine for sleds but i couldn't believe the amount of trucks parked on the ice all in rows next to eachother. not a single one now. my friend from sterling heights who dropped at my house even commented about all the trucks being all grouped up with only 6-8'' of ice. and we all now the depth can vary greatly

Thanks for the update!! There's always a wet spot right at the base of the launch, I always get nervous pulling on right there. I tend to park further up the road by the Raft and then just ride the sled out, it's not worth the risk!!!
If anyone see's me out there stop by and say hi, I'll be the guy with the hood up doing some fine tuning wit a fluorescent orange MX helmet and a grey Klim pullover.

I am south of the outlet mall (M59). I was up by you over the weekend I have family on Indian lake (tornado alley). You guys have more snow then we have. I am in Whitmore Lake every week (I work out there night shift). They have about 3 to 5" of ice as of Saturday. There was an ice fishing tournament over the weekend, I am waiting for more ice. I did see some trails on the edges of the lake. The only bad spot that I know of is on the east side of the lake it is were all the boats rip there props off only 2 feet deep and I think there is a spring there. Every year someone goes though there. I will let you know if I start to see sleds out there. They use to have a nice drag strip plowed by the boat launch. I have even plowed it with my 4 wheeler back in 2000 I raced dirt bikes there. Also some oval tracks too. I will be out on the lake on the 9th and 10th next month from 10a to 6p working I might bring my sled with me if the ice is still around. My next day back to work is Wednesday night 6p to 2a I will look to see if the ice is good. I will let you know. All the people out there were great people, even if you need help with your motor or a tow. The boat launch is a state park launch, I don't know if the rangers will be out there or not.
Thanks
Fro

I don't know what the FW were for it might have been for that. You could go through to the bar before but I think they sold the property and the new owner has put up a fence. You could park at the Marina and walk across the street, I will look into it.
