Im in the process of wrapping my pipes with DEI pipe wrap but having great difficulty. Due to the different pipe diameter the wrap bunches up when going from smaller to larger or the other way around. Has any one had sucess? I wanted to try this because I thought it would be cheaper than ceramic coating.

when I do car headers that go in differnt sizes i hit the pipes up and keep them at a warm temperature and wrap them i wear my welding gloves to do it. I dont know if this helps or not but figured i would put it out there

Pipes get quite rusty under the wraps, we used to do our drag sleds, but no more because of rust pitting and pin hole leaks after a couple race seasons.

What does wrapping them do?
Whats the benefit?

Thanks-

Ive heard that about the rust and the pitting, maybe ill take them off after every season and re-rap the next. But for now id like to give it a try...I just cant seem to do it correctly. I am using DEI 2" tape. At the rate im going ill use an entire roll of 50ft on only one header

The benefit is the pipe comes up to temperature faster and therefore moves the powerband upward in the rpm range and a little higher. The is an advantage in drag racing where the race duration is short timewise not allowing the pipe to come up to temperature before the end of the race. For long pulls across a lake, for instance, wrapped pipes have little or no advantage.

One of the reasons why single pipes on twins work so well is because the pipe heats up quicker and stays hotter.

Theres a real resonable place in Michigan called Q & C coatings there off 23 mile and schoneer. Thats where my pipes are going in the spring
