Well, the ride was lots of fun! Cadillac had sixteen inches or more on the ground, and the trails were in great shape. Temperature stayed in the 20's the whole time, and it was sunny.
The six snowmobiles drew quite a crowd wherever it was we stopped, and at one point in Boone, we lined them up for an impromptu six-sled drag race, which brought laughs, cheers, and photographers to watch the action.
We were out there from 9:30 until 3:30 and probably drove about a total of 60 miles.
Chris's "Secret field of snow" - below. No one had discovered it in the last week or two, it seemed. The trail in & out was only about fice feet wide.
More pictures hereIt turns out that Chris and I have the same model and year of sled: A 1980 Enticer 340 deluxe.

Now, since my snowmobile experience consists ENTIRELY of what I've logged in 2008 on my two vintage snowmobiles, so this ride was great fun. The suspension on my Excel V seems rather plush because I didn't KNOW any different! That is, until Chris loaned me one of his Arctic Cat 700's (I think I got that right) with, like, ten inches of travel, 170-some studs, and 148 horsepower. I got to take it out onto Lake Mitchell and squirt the gas. It was like the acceleration of a CBR900RR, but on ICE! Then I took it onto the campground where the roads are seriously whooped out, and all I had to do was stand up and let the suspension do the work. What a difference! It was like old times on my motocross bike. Wow, the power of a CRB900RR and the suspension of a YZ250. What a combination. Chris, you are definitely a snowmobile apostle and I now can blame you when my wife gets mad if I end up submitting to next year's impulse buy... That machine is really neat. However, for now I think I'm sticking to these old vintage machines, at least until it's time to trickle them down to the kids... (in about one or three years I think)
Cheers,
