The weathermen claim there is no snow in the forecast for the foreseeable future. Cold air in place but dry conditions for at least the next 10 days.

I never imagined that this January could possibly be worse than last years, but it looks like it could end up being a toss-up. Last winter my FIRST ride was in Groton on Jan 23 on pretty thin snowcover which was basically the beginning of the season.
Things set-up pretty well after that and I really hope next month follows suit to last years.

The part that worries me is a lot of these "expert" forecasters are calling for a big February warmup. I so hope they are wrong!!

There is one decent storm advertised on the GFS model for the 28th.

But with the cold temps this week there wont be any of this, just brown ice!!!!!!!!

I know where that is, that can be a dangerous spot as the bridge has eroded to almost nothing. Always look for a route around that stuff if I can,..even deeper into the woods, and mark it in your mind so you dont tag it on the way back, or while cranking speed. That pipeline has not been good this year with all the water, it takes an exceptinal year for you to enjoy that area.

So much for those Accuweather long term predictions - huh? Still nothing real solid on the horizon either. This sucks!!

For those of you that told me to quite whining and find snow - I've ridden 270 miles in the past week and a half.

I was just hoping for some fresh snow south of central Vermont...sorry! trau14.gif

I hear ya and was thinking the same thing. There definitely would be less traffic if we could ride entire state. Plus extra long day trips are nice too. I need cheese, I mean snow.....

I tell you all about Accuweather all the time on here.....Snow will not happen just because Accuweather staff members wish for it and put it in long range forecasts. They inflate weather with alot of drama! Even this Friday event is not looking as good as I would like to see with the rain-mix-snow line going all the way to Canada. -Gil

Ill take last winter over this shit. Next week it will be a month since i have gotten any measurable snow at all. absolutly pathetic. I think the worst i have even seen.

I agree with you completely - I was responding to what some other posters said mentioning accu's long-term.

It rained most of the night and throughout the morning here in Waitsfield. It has now changed to snow with large flakes and the wind is piping up from the south. All of the packed surfaces, walkways, driveways, etc are icy and dangerous. Got to figure that the trails are slick and fast right now or they will be once the temperature drops tonight.

Good thing I ordered studs for my Crossfire on Monday. It looks like it is going to be a good weekend to install them.

I know that northern VT picks up alot of small snowstorms of 1-3" that are never forecasted. Our house in VT got almost 8" in two weeks
spaceshot
veryangry.gif Well, I don't no how to convince you, but as I am sitting home waiting for parts to arrive, it's snowing out pretty good, and has been for awhile, about 1 inch or so. Didn't really get damaged by any rain, if anything it was a freezing rain for a short period, then kicked over to snow. As I read this thread, I just shake my head, there is PLENTY OF SNOW HERE...(at least in the NEK, north east side) and has been all season. Only problems I've come across, was no groomers, or some waterbars. My house has no more room for snow, already getting boxed in with snowbanks. yucky.gif I have put on over a 1000 miles, and I have been unable to ride in the last week 1/2, and it's killing me, the trails look sweet, Newark, Brighten, Norton, Canaan, Avril, and very tired of getting it rubbed in my face, because I'm down, till she gets fixed,(thanks Jim, he says tomorrow). Should have just jumped on the 570, and went. From where I'm sitting the weather we got today only enhanced the trails, little freezin rain and then wet snow. With more due on Friday. imo.gif This is the best I've seen in the Kingdom in a couple of years. You don't know what your MISSING.....Though I do wish that one of these years we could be in sinc throughout the state, had the potential this year, then came warm air, killed it south of here. Im doing the snowdance, and waiting on UPS and my clutch helix, and I'm gone............ smiley-faces7.gif
vt_bluyamaha54
Its too bad what happened at Christmas and again a few more times since with the warm ups and rain and we are all feeling it. I think we all were thinking the same things back in December: ALL OF VERMONT WILL BE RIDEABLE for the first time in MANY, MANY years! We can actually plan LONG loops and maybe even bagger trips exploring all parts of the state.
Instead we have the same old conditions where parts of our trail system get HAMMERED because that is where there is snow.
I know that is the source of my frustration!!

Ive been home for 5 days now and thats long enough!! 7am I'm heading back to Derby and taking 105E to the magic, I mean Northeast Kingdom!!! beer_cheers.gif

blahblah1.gif I suggest if you want to know whats happening for weather in the Kingdom, get a satellite or go to LSC meterology site. Thats Lyndon State College. I can come down off this mtn, and it be snowing to beat the band and within 2 miles, its sunshine. When I tell you I have well over 2 feet on the ground, Im being conservative. And it's solid as a rock, need a bucket loader to move snowbanks. And my forecast is; based on this mornings report, at least 1/2 foot the NEK. And yes, there is plenty of snow on the ground, and any more is even better. Pick your passion, but I'm headed NE, from Newark east, it's golden. You want to hit the thin and pounded trails, "knock your socks off" but I'm going Northeast......HAPPY TRAILS, ....AS FAR AS THE WEAHTER, WILL SEE WHAT THE MORNING BRINGS, .....coming in by 10am, they said.... smoke.gif
