A friend's 2002 ZL 600 blew the left side at 3500 miles. Seems the ring pin failed, the ring turned and hooked on a port. New piston and pot was the result. Then at 4000 miles the same thing happened on the other side. Now having the same motor with 4250 miles I feel I should be replacing my pistons and rings BEFORE this happens to me. Is this a common problem with these motors? I will be keeping it for another year and don't want any problems.

I have a 99 and my dad has an 00 and we have both had that happen. I would replace the pistons in that sled if i was you. It only costs about 300 dollars to do yourslef.
