Hey all,

Looking ofr anyone to burn me a copy of Garmin Mapsource and the unlock code if required. I'm saving up for a Garmin Zumo 550 which comes with Mapsource however in the mean time I would like to use the wifes' Zumo 260 on the trail by loading the sledmaps onto a SD card.

Any help is appreciated.

You can get it for free. Go to Garmin.com and download their Training Center software and the Mapsource Update. Install Training Center, and then install Mapsource. Having Training Center installed will take care of the "Must be a previous version installed" requirement of the Mapsource update.

I tried this and sure enough the "Must be a previous version installed" statement did not appear. However, the program still would not boot. A statement that says it was installed improperely came up and to install it again. After numerious attempts, I think I will need the disk unless there is another step I can do?

Did you have Training Center running when you installed Mapsource? If so, uninstall everything and then try installing Mapsource with Training Center installed but NOT running.

Did Mapsource not work after installing a map, or was it like that before you installed any maps? If so, try uninstalling the map(s) and then try running Mapsource.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest.

Anything else I can do?

Ok,
I got this version of Mapsource to work on yet another computer. However this version doesn't do much. You cannot do any transfers or open any maps or images with it. I called Garmin and they are sending me a disk of MapSource - free of charge!

The big question.

Can I load the snowmobile maps that are on Gpssledmaps.com onto a Nuvi 260?

I'm new to the whole GPS thing, and found out quickly that the downloadable snowmobile maps really don't do much unless you have something like a topo map to give you points of reference, i.e. lakes, rivers, streams, local roads etc..., particularly if you're breaking your own trails. The snowmobile maps themselves (that I've seen), give you breadcrumbs. IMO, the investment in mapsource topo is the only way to make the GPS valuable for off road use.

If I'm wrong here folks, PLEASE set me straight. I'm using the eTrex Legend HCx

My maps have lakes, rivers and roads as well as the trails for people who don't have Topo maps, plus there's a transparent trails only version for those who do. I'm not sure what you mean by breadcrumbs. You can record a breadcrumb trail without any maps at all. That's basic GPS functionality. If you mean the maps show up as breakcrumbs/tracks, that's not correct. The maps on my site are real GPS maps (as opposed to just tracks and waypoints) so what you see on your screen will look much like Garmin's commercial maps.

I've never done it personally, but several people have told me they've done it. Once you have Mapsource it should work just like any other Garmin unit. Just follow the directions.

It works!!

Using MapSource and N.A. 2008 NT, the .img files show up perfectly on the Nuvi. You can then select which maps you want to view in the settings menu of the unit. For me the 2008 NT with the trails only version works great.

Thank you Ryan!!!
